Typical Corporate Department, Chasing Tails and Talking the Talk

Senior Accountant (Former Employee)
Doral, FL

I worked at Carnival Corporation full-time for more than a year

ProsInteresting challenges sometimes, with accounting for unique travel industry situations.

ConsManagement of the department is very closed and political. This department seems to annoy all other departments within Corporate and Carnival; therefore, imagine how annoying working within the department is. Micromanagement will be talked about as if it doesn't happen here, but it is a big problem. Many of the department's initiatives seem to lack a purpose.

Advice to Senior ManagementLiberate your team members to be innovative and to contribute to the management of the department. This department is one with an "open door policy" that has the feel of a locked door.

"Meh..."

Group Service Agent (Former Employee)
Miami, FL

I worked at Carnival Corporation full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat learning opportunities, gain experience in the travel industry.

ConsYou would have to be a robot or the most perfect human being in the world. There is no way under the sun that you will have a life, not too much room for growth, "it's who you know". Management does not look at your human side and most of them are quite rude. Physically grueling if you have to sit for long periods of time. Bathroom breaks are shunned upon.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you treat your employees like humans and with the respect they deserve, you will see how wonderful work life will be. Give more opportunities for growth.

Stay away!!! no room for growth!! May be good for short term!!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Carnival Corporation full-time for more than 8 years

ProsIt was closer to my home....

ConsI was forced to stay in this company for more than 10 years due to my immigration status. No growth since I joined and no room for learning as well. I really worked hard and my management didn't help to move in the career ladder. If you are in IT and company should train the individual to stay on top of the technology changes but this company don't spend a dime on training or personal growth.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Poor management at a supervisory level

Guest Logistics Agent (Current Employee)
Miami, FL

I have been working at Carnival Corporation part-time for more than a year

ProsEnjoyable work if you are customer-service oriented and only need a part-time job to allow you to go to school or just work for a few hours.

ConsSupervisory staff is not prepared for the job, not professional decisions are made as the social activity interferes. Pay is low and same position new employees make $3.00+ per hour more than the others.

Advice to Senior ManagementSomeone from upper management/headquarters should audition for the Undercover Boss show to see what really transpires in a day of embarkation at the Miami terminals.

Once proud sales force reduced to thuggery

Call Center Sales (Current Employee)
Miramar, FL

I have been working at Carnival Corporation full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIf you can survive open favoritism, you may earn a living, but it won't be easy.
Corporate culture has been on a downward spiral since senior management changes.
Sales skills have nothing to do with success.
Being part of the secret alliance is.

ConsFavoritism
Discrimination
Revolving door personnel
Unmotivated middle management
Dead and buried marketing

Advice to Senior ManagementIts too late to right this ship. You've earned your reputation in the travel industry.
Guess its time to follow your managers out the door. Six figure management so far removed from working class employees it feels like two different companies.

Social Host

Entertainment Staff (Former Employee)
Miami, FL

I worked at Carnival Corporation as a contractor for more than 3 years

ProsPretty girls abound, some travel, mostly free medical services, diverse staff

ConsStuck on a ship, often treated like second class citizen (not as bad as the crew but still an annoying set of rules), lousy pay, required to share a tiny cabin, insane hours, dancing the electric slide, some cruise directors are horrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementKnow that people who interact daily with guest, who are not on commission, ought to be paid more. Keep a pulse on which Cruise Directors really know what they are doing.
