The company is strikingly generic; the embodiment of the worst elements of Corporate America.

    I worked at Carnival Corporation

    Pros

Flexible schedule, good pay, fun overall environment. Clearly, getting paid to travel and do what you love is an inherent pro.

    Cons

There is a massive disconnect between the facade of public persona expected of crew and actual ship life. The efforts of Carnival to be a values-driven, employee-first company are laughable, culturally insensitive, and ultimately offensive. Living conditions are quite poor for the majority of the crew, and food quality is barely fit for human consumption.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember the people who do the work that ultimately make your shareholders happy.

I worked at Carnival Corporation as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great experience for a shorter period of time, not a career. I learned a lot in the first year, but hit a limit. I enjoyed working with people from all over the world. Got to see most of the Caribbean in short times off. Made some great friends. Everything I enjoyed about the job had nothing to do with the company itself.

    Cons

Poor pay for the hours worked. Too much time standing. Little time for relaxing and sleep.

Inefficient use of workers because everyone works the same hours. There are plenty of times when only half the staff would really be necessary. No regular benefits. Little chance for moving up, unless you are from the right country and have a certain personality. Have to deal with thousands of guests with think they own you because they paid to get on the ship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the people, not just the numbers. When half the ship photo management leaves in a short period of time, you should realize there is a problem in the way you are treating people and running the operation.

I have been working at Carnival Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Free food and accomodation, saving money, explore many places.

    Cons

I met many department heads (managers) were so rude, and they didn't motivate their subordinates. They were not good samples for their subordinates. Working hard every day in long hours can be tolerent if we got good motivation from them. They're always blame us, nothing can be right, and everything we did was wrong. Company's trick was very smart, and they took too much adventages from crew members' productivity, but almost nothing of positive feed back that we could get. Promotion was favoritism, and not based on their achivements.

If you're talented, and have good achievements about your life, this place is not good for you, otherwise you will waste your time here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please respect crew members, we don't need your money, we just need your motivation. We realize that we worked hard not only for our career improvement, but also for your goal.

Typical Corporate Department, Chasing Tails and Talking the Talk

    Pros

Interesting challenges sometimes, with accounting for unique travel industry situations.

    Cons

Management of the department is very closed and political. This department seems to annoy all other departments within Corporate and Carnival; therefore, imagine how annoying working within the department is. Micromanagement will be talked about as if it doesn't happen here, but it is a big problem. Many of the department's initiatives seem to lack a purpose.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Liberate your team members to be innovative and to contribute to the management of the department. This department is one with an "open door policy" that has the feel of a locked door.

    Pros

Great learning opportunities, gain experience in the travel industry.

    Cons

You would have to be a robot or the most perfect human being in the world. There is no way under the sun that you will have a life, not too much room for growth, "it's who you know". Management does not look at your human side and most of them are quite rude. Physically grueling if you have to sit for long periods of time. Bathroom breaks are shunned upon.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you treat your employees like humans and with the respect they deserve, you will see how wonderful work life will be. Give more opportunities for growth.
