    Pros

Some nice perks based on your level of employment.

    Cons

Taking advantage of people in need during the worst time in their lives. Encouraging employees to use every last bit of an insurance policy so they can profit, while potentially placing someone on the street was not what I got into this profession for. This is the practice in the majority of the operations as directed by the Executive Levels. We MUST deliver results to our shareholders. I was a shareholder and certainly did not encourage or promote these practices of greed, which is why I left. Funeral Service is about helping, compassion and having a heart and soul. Not for the Executive Team in Houston to line their pockets with outrageous bonuses and shares of stocks while they have taken every dime from many elderly clients and families that were left only with a few hundred dollars after the elaborate services were planned well beyond the budget of the client. I would encourage those that are in need to use an Independent Firm in your area and avoid the large Companies such as this one.

    Advice to Management

Remember why this Company was founded and for who you are working for. We all worked for the client families. That's who paid our salaries. When you continually push the boundaries on how to grow knowing they are not ethically appropriate, well, you have fallen into the category of greed. With quality of service and treating people the right way, business will follow. Stop taking advantage of those that are in need and reflect upon what is your founding principles and "Best Practices". Maybe you need to jog your memories.

    Pros

Carriage Services was built on strong principals and our CEO is extremely passionate about helping his employees perform well. These hard working employees pour their sweat and tears into caring for grieving families. I am proud to serve these employees.

    Cons

There is much work to be done at Corporate. The goal is to have "the right people in the right seats", but who determines who is "right" for that seat? Our company has recently lost many quality employees with a lot of heart. Cooperative employees who do their jobs well shouldn't dread Monday mornings because they know they're walking into a hostile work environment.

    Advice to Management

    To Upper Management:

Please take a look at your current situation. Is it the "wrong people in the seats?", or the "wrong people arranging the seating charts?" Just because someone performs well in their role, doesn't mean they're right fit for their "management seat". Employees don't leave companies, they leave relationships where they feel they aren't appreciated or trusted. They should be able to voice their opinions to management without retaliation or reactionary attitudes. Numbers tell a story, and exit interviews will give an even stronger insight.

Please evaluate your Leadership Team and make sure they have proper management training, and are truly passionate about their roles. A mature Leadership Team will not make excuses and blame others. Our field employees deserve the very best, and that won't happen until there is accountability.

    Pros

You have the potential to make fantastic money. Commission only and great benefits.

    Cons

The General Manager as so much autonomy he acts like a child with a toy. The support staff has no discipline and is allowed to verbally abuse others with impunity. It is a chaotic atmosphere and only those with a self driven ability to success are successful, all on their own. Training is minimal, but methods for doing the job change almost daily anyway. it is a highly whimsical workflow system.

    Pros

The people and experience were great. That is what truly made the company great. The flexibility and independence given was something I liked.

    Cons

People would stab you in the back at the drop of a hat. You always had to look over your shoulder to see who would try to manipulate what you said or try to rat you out for something so petty. If you have a question or need help, good luck getting it.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to get the picture and get rid of the bad seeds. During my time there, it was nothing new to show up and realize that someone was terminated. I seen a lot of great people go and had no idea why. The 4E model has got to go. We're all human, nobody is perfect.
