Great people, great atmosphere, and a company that forgot where they came from and who got them where they are today.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Cash America full-time for more than 5 years

ProsYou get a good real time education on all aspects of the retail and financial industries. Staff in the stores are usually friendly and willing to help. Fun atmosphere to work in and you build real bonds with your customers. Work is not real hard just kind of stressful during peak hours.

ConsTheir boasts that they believe in developing the employees is a joke! Absolutely no room for advancement! Less than a dollar raise (in total) in over 5 years of service. Incentive bonuses have been "restructured" several times always meaning having to work harder for less. Hours are long and not much time for family, usually off about 730 and open 7 days a week. Long days are 11 hour days. Full time staff is kept under 40 hours a week.

Advice to Senior ManagementPawn shops are personal not like cookie cutter retail stores, Trust the staff that made you what you are, they are not lazy employees trying to cheat or steal from you. Don't give your employees lip service. If you say that core values and principles, practice them. Monitor your management (above the store level) more closely, the way things are structured now it is a breeding ground for favoritism.

I worked at Cash America full-time for less than a year

ProsThe pay was good, easy job to do. Nothing overwhelming and you work decent hours.

ConsAssistant manager was nuts. I would work from open to close and when she was in charge, I was not allowed to take a lunch or any breaks. I was also told in my interview that they would work around my school schedule when school started back up. Well when school started, they told me to choose between school or the job. This is the reason I don't work for them anymore.

Has it's ups and downs, guess it depends on the management you get.

I have been working at Cash America full-time for more than a year

ProsThey work with your schedule, you get an hour lunch break, good discounts during holidays

ConsSome of the management are on power trips, do not treat employees and customers as equals, lots of the merchandise is not properly/authentically checked

Advice to Senior ManagementHave more respect towards employees, be firm but not belittling. Stop putting on a front when the "big guy" comes around. Remember, you were once where your employee or customer was.

Worked in the Financial Department

I worked at Cash America full-time for more than a year

ProsCash America is really big on sponsoring charities. They have a great push for JDRF. Many of the departments have team building times.

ConsTheir PTO plans are very outdated. They say they are about family life and work life balance but that was not my experience.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpdate your PTO plans.

My experience so far...

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
Cocoa, FL

I have been working at Cash America part-time for less than a year

ProsI was hired mid December of last year. Fellow employees are cool. I would have quit had it not been for them. I'd worked in a small pawn shop for many years prior.

ConsStress! Maybe it's just me, but I strive to do my best. Hard to do when you're trying to do five things at once. And although we have great customers, we also have our share of rude customers. I know that you can't please everyone, but some people seem to go out of their way to be nasty. My manager is great, and I'm always pleased when we work together. I started at a lower wage than the job warrants, and thats okay for now. But I am hoping that my hard work will pay off. We'll see. My hours are always different, sometimes 12 hour days but less than 40 hours per week. I do not like that.

Advice to Senior ManagementI'm new at Cash America, but since I've been here, I have seen two employees leave for better jobs, one employee that left due to a drug test, and one that was let go by Cash America. Four employees in less than three months? For me, its too early to tell how I can rate the career opportunities.

Fairness, honesty and integrity should be in everyone's tool kit of values.

Store Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at Cash America part-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe pawn business is unique and unlike any other, and the company does a fairly decent job of letting their store managers achieve success without micro-managing, or at least that was my experience. If you are able to successfully manage one of their stores for several years, you will learn everything there is to know about running a business and those skills will likely remain with you always.

ConsAlthough the company strives for an even keel in its policies of fairness, honesty..... many of the mid level managers I worked for seemed to think that those policies were only to be enforced at the store manager level and below. Very few of those mid level managers had formal educations and the fact that I was pursuing a BS on my own time was viewed negatively by some as it was possibly taking focus away from my ability to run a store - not true.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper Management - take some time and visit the stores or at least call the store manager and be available for a lengthy conversation - not just the big stores, but the smaller ones as well. There are many new ideas to be considered.

– I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
