Great work life balance but not too much upward mobility.

I have been working at Cathay General Bancorp full-time

    Pros

The office culture is very friendly. Most people have been with the bank for many years and know what they are doing. The human resources department is very nice and willing to work with employees to make sure that the best possible outcome occurs. Hours are pretty standard without too much overtime.

    Cons

Because people are with the bank for a long time, there are not many positions open for career advancement. In addition, people are not too willing to try new things if the way it's always worked before has been ok.

I have been working at Cathay General Bancorp part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Everyone is really helpful. The work itself is pretty easy, although as a teller i cannot comment on other facets of the bank.

    Cons

Not much of a ladder to climb. Almost no exit opportunities or in house growth opportunities to speak of.

    Pros

Got a basis on how a bank works on the operation level. Got a good understanding of different programs that banks use.

    Cons

If you don't speak Chinese its hard to get promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Former Employee - Intern

I worked at Cathay General Bancorp

    Pros

Responsibilities that have an impact on the company
Senior management is supportive when an individual is self-driven
Hands-on tasks give interns a lot of experience and knowledge of the banking industry

    Cons

Sometimes response from co-workers was slow, so an intern is not able to get their work done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build an efficient workflow process for documentation. Develop better ways to electronically store large batches of documents (loan files).
