    Pros

Catholic Charities is a wonderful company to work for. They are very considerate of work-life balance, flexible, and supportive. You can advance to many other sites-because they have MANY in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area. Professional development is available. If you are wanting to receive a degree in the areas of Certified Addiction Counseling and do not want to access school loans to do they have a payment plan that will come directly out of your paycheck and you complete your education at Catholic University. I worked midnight to 8AM with a crew that was wonderful. I really miss the people I worked with on my shift.

    Cons

Based on the position I had as a Residential Counselor working in a homeless shelter I had a set schedule. Unless you took days off there was no way around this. However this was my choice I could have very easily gained another position at another site. I because so comfortable with my co-workers that I didn't want to move to another site.

    Advice to Management

I do suggest that the residential counselors get more professional development. I was disappointed with how the residents were treated and looked down upon by some of the staff. However overall the staff was very compassionate to the clients.

    Cons

The only con is that the job may seem spread thin on resources, but this issue is common to the non-profit world, generally.
