I have been working at Catholic University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great organization to be a part of.. fosters an environment conducive to learning. Allows adjuncts to think outside of the box and have complete control of subject matter.

    Cons

Compensation structure could be better, personal growth depends completely on you - whether or not you want to put in the extra work.

I worked at Catholic University full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great people, good students. Dorm life improving little by little. Changes on South side of campus should help.

    Cons

Bad upper management at the time, 2011. Some of the deans were not involved as they should be.

I worked at Catholic University as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

    Lots of flexibility. Interesting work.

    Cons

Generally tend to work more hours than expected. Was paid a lump sum which ended up paying a per hourly rate that was lower than expected, given the work required. This tends to happen with research/book projects in my experience.

I have been working at Catholic University

    Pros

CUA has a tight-knit community, healthy benefits, a great location, opportunities for service and development, and much more.

    Cons

Opportunities for advancement are dependent on either institutional expansion or someone vacating a position, the demands of the ecclesiastical affiliation are occasionally off-putting, and the degree of siloing and student life vs. academic tension are high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CUA would benefit from more centralized leadership and authority in the hands of the Provost.
