    Pros

Pay was good, lots of travel and expenses never questioned, vacations and compressed work week, fridges full of juice and pop, espresso machines on every floor, sky gardens were nice.

    Cons

Everyone I worked with was "super nice" in that phony, climb-to-the-top-at-any-cost backstabbing kind of way. Bureaucracy was thick, and the atmosphere stifling. So many reorgs no one knew if they were coming or going.

    Advice to Management

Treat your contractors better; they are not an underclass. Give better direction to new grads and summer students.

    Pros

Good salaries and benefits, also 2 fridays off a month, even lately because of workload was working any of those fridays catch up work to do.

    Cons

Project Managers with no enough experience on big projects, working under cost pressure, creating the blaming environment.
No proper career development - the buddies can more.

    Advice to Management

Too many changes at the same time and making pressure on medium levels... decisions made on 2009 are impacting now.

    Pros

Great to get first and third Fridays off
    Good hourly rate

    Cons

    > Manager not acting on reported problems about poor project management and abusive team member - puts project at risk and eventually leads to dysfunctional project
    > No consistency in the quality of project managers; PM neglecting the project schedule and communications basics -- where is the Group Lead for that PM; and then there are other PM's who are outstanding and who follow the PMLC and communicate very well.
    > Problems with role and responsibility definitions - solutions architects and BAs roles overlap and can lead to friction. Maybe BAs should not be on infrastructure projects?
    > Unprofessional somewhat abusive behavior tolerated.

    Advice to Management

    > Give your PMO some teeth and back them up rolling out governance of the PM process.
    > Get the PM group lead to set some basic milestones -- without a proper project schedule the team and the organization do not know where they are going.
    > Don't overload your PM's with too many projects. The PM in question had too many projects on his plate to give them the kind of attention they needed.
    > Governance: Ask PM for a detailed project schedule (MS Project) after Charter has been approved -- at least detailed for the planning phase.

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits with 1st and 3rd Friday's off and ability to purchase additionaly vacation time. Big company so there is the possibility of moving roles within the company.

    Cons

Politicals rule. Leaders are picked from the pool of other leaders friends based on their brown nosing abilities and not leadership skills consequently this company is serverly lacking meaningful leadership. A good number of managers are more inclined to manage their own career instead of their team, so they spend more time networking and working out how to get to the next level.

Senior management lacks vision and seems to spend a lot of time and effort creating new posters, but then forgets to actually follow up or enact change. Recent company internal survey has highlighted the general dissatisfication of the staff, so will be interesting if they can or try to turn things around.

    Advice to Management

    Manage your company.

    Pros

    1. Good pay
    2. Some decent positions

    Cons

    1. Terrible program. (If you have another job offer, take it)
    2. HR will rotate you based on "business need" and not your preference. If Cenovus needs janitors tom, you will be rotated there
    3. Your input is not valued, and you cannot do anything about it.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing.

Advice to new graduates: Try finding a better company to work for. The Cenovus new grad program is literally the worst thing ever.

    Pros

Challenging work and industry standard compensation

    Cons

Poor Leadership, lots of poster talk from upper management that doesn't translate to the working level.

    Advice to Management

Flatten and focus the organisation. We produce oil not youtube videos.

    Pros

Any "pros" that existed have been eliminated or removed from this organization.

    Cons

My manager could not lead his way out of a wet paper bag. Who needs a manager who slaps his head, pulls at his hair, rocks back and forth and plugs his ears when your having business discussions? (True story)!

    Advice to Management

Perhaps consider cranial MRI's for group leads and managers before appointing them into stretch roles .A leader’s job is to align the organization around a clear and achievable vision. This cannot occur when the blind lead the blind.

    Pros

    Fridays Off
    Contract Pay was indsutry standard
    Enjoyed work

    Cons

Contract was terminated with no warning - 5 of us across the division were let go all at once
Manner and handling of termination very abrupt, disrespectful and degrading to contract employee
Lack of leadership to very poor leadership at all levels
Lack of trust and respect in leaders - feeling was they say one thing and do another

    Advice to Management

Treat your contract employees with more respect. We contribute as much if not more than "permanent employees".

    Pros

First and Third Fridays off. Good location, can be flexible work hours. Great commercials.

    Cons

Too political - everything is based on pretense and relationships. Hidden agendas galore and people who are good putting on a facade are typically the ones that get praised while the "real" people do the work.
    No leadership skills for management
Unfair treatment to contractors - contractors treated like second class citizens. Why bother hiring anyone as a contractor if they're not given respect/access/permissions to do work but are expected to deliver the same amount of work as employees. Alot of contractors and service providers aren't even shown on the org chart and are "hidden".
    Massive workload with unreasonable deadlines/expectations.
Very low morale - everyone is working out of fear of job loss.
    Too much water-cooler whispering.
Feels like a factory run by machines - no heart
Messages from leadership regarding Cenovus culture are empty words - the Cenovus culture is almost opposite of what they portray it to be. Huge disconnect between Leadership and the actual goings-on in the company. The culture at EnCana before the split was better than what it is today.

    ....Cenovus "in a nutshell"

    Advice to Management

Get to know your employees AND contractors - be transparent.
Put more value on the people - they are the ones doing the work. Its not all about the numbers and its not "fluff". The people produce the numbers. Contractor satisfaction is very low.

    Pros

Pays well! Oil and gas always pays great money.

    Cons

Prepare to spend your days doing the kind of soul crushing, boring, out of date, factory coding. A 'new project' is something you dream of like the desert dreams of rain.

    Advice to Management

None. I can't imagine how you could tell management how to improve.
