    I worked at Cenovus full-time

    Pros

Young, innovative, energetic feel. Top notch pay and benefits. Great perks. 1st & 3rd Fridays off. Nice offices. Awesome matching gifts program.

    Cons

Work life balance was elusive for me. Fridays off are great - if you can take them. Didn't take me long to figure out things are quite political. Felt I couldn't trust my leader.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Walk the talk. Care about and be more supportive of your employees. Earn my trust.

I have been working at Cenovus full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Vacation time, 1st & 3rd Fridays, Benefits

    Cons

Lots of layers of management so not a flat structure at all. It now takes forever for decisions to be made and even then a half dozen leads have to be involved. Leads now seem to not want to be accountable for making the 'wrong' decision. A culture now of stepping over $1 to pick up a dime - under the guise of watching capital spend. Talented people have started leaving the last 6 months despite the 'Pros' listed above.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Walk the floors and talk to staff. Engagement isn't just the townhall or the one directional INC web postings. Create a way for staff to directly post their feedback.

I have been working at Cenovus full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Good compensation and work/life balance.
-8.5 hours a day with 2 Fridays off in a month
    -Expected Growth for the company
    -Valuable Assets
-full stocked kitchen, lots of company events, great christmas parties.

    Cons

    - Lengthy rotation period compared to other companies (18 months vs 6 or 12 months in other companies).
    - Limited opportunity, HR will tell you that they will consider your preferences when rotating, but in fact, your preferences do not really matter. Decisions are made according to business needs. There is no development discussion or feedback opportunity.
    - Unbalanced workload. Some people on the team have nothing to do half of the month and others work overtime continuously.

I worked at Cenovus as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    -Great salary and reputation
-got my overtime approved (for Calgary office) over 42 hours per week
-8.5 hours a day with 2 Fridays off in a month
    -nice relocation package
-full stocked kitchen, lots of company events and student events (free lunches often)
-super nice, new offices and computers
-most people tend to stay with the company long term
-younger people company (people get promoted fast), younger culture (not super organized)
-hire many students all over Canada (200+)

    Cons

-Did not get placed in the engineering discipline that requested (had to learn from scratch, which is OK, but I'm confident that I would contribute more in the other department because of the previous experience related to what I'm studying)
    -many issues dealing with HR
-not enough mentors in the field that I'm studying. Most engineers move up in project management and engineering management. Plus, a lot of people go on vacation in summer, so some days I don't even have anyone to ask a question. some people are overloaded with work, others not so much.
-many offices locations around Calgary downtown (walking from building to building often)
    -no training opportunities were offered

    Pros

Great people and a good organizational culture.

    Cons

Education and background is not always recognized. Great people, however the business processes were weak. Transparency and good cost processes need improvement.
