    I have been working at Centene as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

    None. No benefits to working for this company at all.

    Cons

    They lie to their temp employees. I was brought on as a supposed "Temp to Hire" and only found out just recently that I had no chance of being hired. So I've been doing the job for almost 6 months, but I'm not qualified enough to do the job. Yeah, makes total "sense" to me. The FACT that I've been bad-mouthed behind my back by another employee hasn't helped. When asked why I was good enough to be brought on as a temp but not good enough to be hired, my manager informed me that if he had had the pool of people then that he has now when 30+ people just got hired, I wouldn't have gotten hired. So basically I was better than nothing. Centene is absolutely one of the worst places I have worked. What I have seen while I've been here, not everyone is treated equally. If you're a butt-kisser to management, you'll always be the "golden child". If you back stab and bad mouth others to management, same thing. So steer clear of Centene whatever you do!

    Treat your employees, both temp and permanent, like they're worth something and treat everyone the same. Oh, and don't like to your temps and tell them they're temp to hire when they're not!

    Pros

    Pay good but when you figure out how many hours you are really working its not worth it

    Cons

    case load is extremely heavy--unsafe and I have a license to protect
    Mid management gives different answers and it is confusing
    No work-life balance
    Mgmt doesn't care about Care Manager developing a relationship with members--just numbers and stats and produce, produce, produce like members are a bunch of cattle

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Do you even know how mid management treats us?
    To upper management--we have supervisors with no degrees or bachelors degrees managing us LSW's/MSW's and LISW's. This is reportable to the social work licensing board.
    Why are our caseloads 800-1000 per social worker? Really? Unsafe!!!!

    Pros

    Salary but in the end it is not worth all the hours you really will put it.

    Cons

    2 different supervisors tell you 2 different things and no on knows the right way to do it, yet you are held accountable
    As an MSW I am assigned 800-1000 members
    Absolutely no work life balance
    Management mid and upper don't care what us Line staff have to say to help better the company
    Wished I would have not taken this job.

    Do you even know how mid management treats us? Why won't you be open and listen?
    We have a supervisor who has befriended 1 employees and helps only them. No one cares. Why?
    Set up for failure due to a supervisor withholding info except for his/ her friend

    I have been working at Centene as a contractor

    Pros

    Nice pay if you work as a contractor. However the employees are not valued and neither is their input regarding what could make the position better. Middle management is very segregated and unapproachable. You are often punished for voicing any opinions.Punishment can include having your desk relocated, suddenly receiving poor quality scores or not being hired on permanently. They only want yes people on the team. Oh yeah, lunch is only 30 minutes and your breaks are forfeited if your call goes 5 minutes over your scheduled break time and you're only allowed 15 minutes a day for bathroom breaks. No electronics allowed on floor, hall, or stairway even during personal time. Don't forget to clock in a minute before or you're late and will receive an occurrence worth .25 and can't log out until 1 minute after end time. Very hostile work environment. Work analyst team play the role of schedule gods.

    All the above. VERY HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT AND NEEDS UNION INTERFERENCE.

    Pros

    Pay increase to join company. Hours of flexibility. Use to company credit card without having to go through hassle of reimbursement.

    Cons

    The market I worked in was a newly implemented Health Plan. There was MINIMAL support from the Corporate level and the people hired in the market had no Healthcare experience. How can you manage and function a Health Plan without that? Workers were very unprofessional and Management and above never took ownership of any issues. Ultimately the Health Plan advised they were pulling out of the market no less than 8 months of "going live". Luckily this was something I recognized and left prior to all this. This company still leaves a bad taste in Providers mouths.

    Pros

    Pay was good.
    With the exception of management, the people I met are very nice and helpful.
    They try to promote a healthy lifestyle (well if you exclude the stress they add)

    Cons

    Work life balance is crazy. We're talking 15 hr days, lunch at your desk while you work. Everything is urgent. If you don't delivery you'd better have yourself a backup plan.
    Corp has a disconnect to the other companies it manages. Middle management in these other companies have a strong disdain for corp.
    And as mentioned, manager are there for who they know not what they now. My manager was obtuse, micromanaged, and had a temper.
    If you do decide the money is worth the ulcer you'll get, take is one advice. Keep your opinions to yourself while you are there. They are a perfect company with perfect procedures, and to suggest anything otherwise, only means you are stupid for not realizing their perfection. You might think I am exaggerating, but you have been warned.

    You are all perfect. Keep giving yourself pats on the backs and tell yourself how awesome you are as managers, as the workers really couldn't think for yourselves if it wasn't for your arrogance.

    Pros

    Pay is excellent for this area. Benefits are great, from insurance to 401k to quarterly bonuses.

    Cons

    Management is a complete joke! You only get somewhere if you are a brown noser or butt kisser. I choose to let my work ethic speak for itself. I am one of the top producers in our office and it has only gotten me written up and threatened by management. They are in cahoot's with HR, so that gets you absolutely nowhere. Yes I am a current employee, but not very much longer. I refuse to work for a company that has ZERO moral's, ethic's or integrity!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Upper management (corporate) should really make surprise visit's and meet with your "low on the totem pole" employee's to get the real story of what goes on. Site managers will smile and sit across a table from you in a conference room and degrade us to our face and then tell you how wonderfully happy they are with the way things are going. I'm sure they are! Bullying is NOT an acceptable form of management!!

    I have been working at Centene full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Compensation and benefits is probably the best thing going for Centene employees. If you are absolutely desperate for a job, hire on but only until you find something else. Don't worry - Centene is famous for their employee turnover rate. You will also receive a decent severance package as long as you sign a document stating you will not sue them.

    Excellent Pre-school at a discounted price that is open 6am to 6pm so you can work almost 12 hours per day.

    Cons

    Too many to count and list here. Major issues for me are:

    • No work/life balance
    • Bullying behavior from Managers - especially in the NurseWise division
    • Lack of responsible oversight from HR and Executive Management
    • Lack of training provided
    • Back-stabbing and favoritism are rampant
    • Working for a company that built state-of-the-art buildings and successfully took over a large part of Clayton by underhanded means.
    • Said Buildings, etc. were paid for with Medicaid Dollars.
    • While accruing time off, there is never a time you can actually take it. You lose it because you can't carry it over to the next year.
    • Out-dated policies and procedures
    • No flexibility – hours, dress code, working remotely, etc.
    • Mentality that employees aren’t to be trusted and are not treated as the professionals they are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It doesn't make any difference what I have to say. Management has ignored every comment and suggestion ever made. Those employees that did have the courage to express their opinions are no longer employed. That should say something.
