ProsGood Pay, Enjoyable co-workers. Great availability of educational resources.

ConsHard to build tenure with layoffs passed around so freely. HR decisions are made as if by dictatorship without regard to the managers, recommendations.

Opportunity for those who are willing to Work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe Pay can be very good if you are good at taking care of the Customer. Good schedules and the benefits are better then average.

ConsPromotions can be rare so be prepared when an opportunity arises. You need to EARN your place in Management. When you do it will be well worth it.

Pretty good company to work for, heavily focused on growth in all ventures company invests, expanding portfolio/business

    Management (Current Employee)

ProsSolid industry performer, big company in terms of size, small company roots still present though. Has long distance race plan vs. sprint for short term race results. Strategic approach to risk and company growth. Decent benefit plans, mindful of recognized holidays, decent vacation time allotted and increases as time with company grows. Lead teams are accessible and visible in all of the company's working environments.

ConsHeavily focused on employee location rather than their contribution, often top down management style, still views traditional business model as the "only" way to do business (employees in offices year round, regimented time requirements, etc.), in some ways stuck in an earlier time in terms of how the management to employee relationship is established and maintained. Often react in extremes when it comes to budget and fiscal management.

Advice to Senior ManagementStick with the principals that make this a great company. Lessen the focus on location and recognize that the talent pool is deep and part of its value involves acknowledging the value in the talent being spread across companies geography. Embrace technology and use it to better the company from a business and employee experience standpoint.

Started as an excellent company, but after 3 company define mergers, it simply was too political.

    Director (Former Employee) Monroe, LA

ProsThe CEO, COO and many of the senior execs are great people and will truly move heaven and earth to great a successful company. Great feedback process and a true willingness to adjust company policy based on survey results.

ConsAlways understaffed and overloaded with projects with tight time lines. While the corporate officers and Senior Vice Presidents are almost uniformly awesome, the Vice President level has become very political, emotional and not always looking out for CTLs best interests.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend as much time inspecting at the VP level as you do at the manager and Director level.

Centurylink is a good company to work for.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Monroe, LA

ProsI really like the upper management and many of my coworkers. The pay is pretty good and there are a lot of benefits including several voluntary benefits. The STI bonus is decent but requirements are cryptic. They are decided by your manager and director, and are hard to understand.

ConsJob promotions and project assignments are too political. Even if you have more experience or higher level of education than someone else, it doesn't mean anything. If you want to change positions in the company then you have to inform you manager before you apply.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't require so much project-based time reporting. While I understand that it makes it much easier to track cost by project, it is overly complicated. It was much better when we used Actitime and left SAP alone except for PTO.
