    Pros

lots of opportunities for advancement, great people, great offices/environment, awesome benefits, work that is challenging, teamwork

    Cons

You can get stuck with lots of travel (which may or may not be a con depending on the person), which makes it difficult to balance life/work. Lots of hours. The higher positions often require the most travel, so that's a con for me, too.

    Advice to Management

Listen to and support the employee's needs more

    Pros

good (or at least comparable) salary, room to move within the company once you're hired, some additional education and training opportunities

    Cons

experience varies widely from team to team and organization to organization, no consistency in management, if your function is not directly billable then you are not considered valuable to the company

    Advice to Management

take steps to create better consistency across different parts of the company, don't assume a good individual performer will necessarily make a good manager

    Pros

Mostly good hours, even with travel Early leadership opportunities National and international travel opportunities Hires many young people out of college

    Cons

Low salary Few incentives - no bonuses Lots of red tape Limited ability to direct career path Satisfaction with mediocrity Lack of accountability

    Advice to Management

Create incentives and reward high performance. Work to reduce the amount of corporate tasks and focus on the needs of the client. Reduce the amount of consultant turnover on client projects; people will be more accountable if they know they will be working the same project for 9 months instead of moving on to the next one after 2 weeks.

    Pros

The changing world of healthcare IT is at your fingertips and you genuinely have the ability to influence the industry. Overall benefits at Cerner are good. Plenty of opportunity to move laterally.

    Cons

Demand is very high, especially in the support world. Required to work a minimum of 48 hours for salaried employees, but as you move further up in the company, the responsibilities you own will require more than that. "Corporate mentality" is very much a factor and it's all about who you know and who you're willing to step on to move up the ladder.

    Advice to Management

It's not always about pushing out the latest and greatest innovations in HIT. We should refocus on code quality, and work to attain a reputation of quality rather than quantity. Associates feel less valued when the focus is always on the next dollar making opportunity, and also makes for a hostile work environment that is not conducive to teamwork. Invest in your associates. Encourage further education and industry experience opportunities. The environment and appreciation of associates needs to shift to truly allow people to change healthcare; after all, it is too important to stay the same.
