    Pros

Health care IT is an exciting field right now and Cerner is the leader in this area. Great opportunity for new college grads to get their foot in the door. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people to work with. There is a health clinic, gym, and montessori style daycare on site.

    Cons

Depending on your position you may be expected to put in more than 40 hours per week. On the engineering side, you may be supporting the application which is good for growth within Cerner but may not help so much for other employment opportunities outside of Cerner.

    Advice to Management

    Rethink switching to windows vista.

  2. Cerner has great vision, they need to work on their HR department.

    Pros

While many people dislike Neal, no one can argue that he is not a visionay or passionate leader. Many people in his position would be semi-retired, enjoying all of the money he has made, but he is out there plugging away still trying to change healthcare.

    Cons

The pay is below average even for the KC area, let alone the software industry as a whole.

    Advice to Management

Communicate vision better down the ranks.

They treat you really well, and prepare you for what you need to do. The training provided is very complete and they spent a great amount of time, resources, and effort into making sure new hires feel comfortable and become confident in what they do. The people there are great, and everyone is very helpful. There are a lot of intelligent people there to help you out. Everyone works together to get the job done. There is a great dynamic work environment, which allows you to grow with your skill set. I hope this is helpful.

    Cons

Start with only 2 weeks vacation.

    Pros

What we are doing at Cerner matters to the U.S. and the world. The healthcare market is on the cusp of collapse for so many reasons and being part of the solution matters. The associates that succeed at Cerner all have an underlying vein that shares this passion. So many people are so smart and the competition pushes everyone to push harder both for themselves and their peers. I also appreciate the ability to create my own world. Most associates have full responsibility for understanding the issues in their corners of the world and finding, creating and then implementing fixes.

    Cons

We work awfully long hours. It certainly is not for everyone and the standards are very high. Average at Cerner tends to be higher than at most places which a very high degree of competition. Some folks love it; other hate it. Most of the latter don't tend to last more than a couple of years.

    Advice to Management

We have to figure out a way to stay lean without losing the most valuable veterans.

    Pros

They are pretty loose as to when I do my work, and it's project based, so as long as I get things done, they don't ask too many questions.

    Cons

Expectations of absolute quality without allowing flex in deadlines to accomplish it.

    Advice to Management

Don't just demand quality, but give employees the tools and flexibility to create it.

    Pros

Outstanding company with a great leader with vision. Tons of opportunities for those willing to work for them. I would recommend this company to all those who are looking to make a difference in the field of healthcare. The pay is on par with what the industry pays. The company believes in a "work hard, play hard" culture that promotes a balance in the lives of it's associates. There are many competent associates that work for the company and most believe in sharing the knowledge. You will move up quickly if you are willing to work hard. Those looking for an easy paycheck will be managed out.

    Cons

Need to put in lots of hours.

    Advice to Management

Sr. Mgmt. is doing a great job leading the company

    Pros

One of the best things about Cerner is about the people you get to work with. They are all extremely smart, and help you at any time you may need help. It's a fun environment to work in.

    Cons

One of the downsides of working at Cerner is the location. Chances are you will have to move from most people you now.

    Advice to Management

Cerner's culture is one biggest assets it has. The culture in return brings out the best in each and every person that works here.
