    Pros

    The benefits were great at Cerner and I do believe they start everyone with a good salary. In my opinion the bonuses are rather hard to achieve unless you walk on water.

    Cons

    The work life is pretty strict. All business and very little time to learn new things. Their Friday parties are one way they try to accomplish some employee feel good. I routinely put in 65 hours per week and this included work at home in the evenings. Their methodology sucks in my opinion. Method M is a joke.

    Pros

    Lots of interaction with higher level executives
    Associates are fantastic
    Time off
    Onsite clinic and gym

    Cons

    No personal growth- if you are not a favorite you do not advance
    Leadership does not always discuss changes with you
    Low pay
    High deductible for insurance
    Annual reviews are done on a scale, someone has to be labeled as "needs improvement"
    Everything is perception, and there is a lot of faking
    No room for mistakes

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Have faith in your team, and do not have favorites. Favoritism shows, and it makes others on your team feel the work they do does not matter. Pay your employees what they should be paid. A 3% increase doesn't do anything but up someones tax bracket for an extra $40.00 a paycheck. Cerner hires young fresh out of college individuals, and takes advantage of their optimism and hope to advance, a lot of empty promises. Do not believe the hype!

    Pros

    Cerner is willing to give smart recent grads a job, training, and decent salary.

    Cons

    You can easily get lost in the group because your career is 100% based of business need and 0% based of your interests and skills. If a friend asked me if they should apply I would say no.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Put more of your resources into non WHQ sites. ITWorks and International sites get all of the mandates of big Cerner without any of the perks.

    Pros

    Good benefits and compensation. Some flexibility depending upon your manager.

    Cons

    There is a lot of office politics. There is no training, with tons of expectations. The salaries are good, but they don't mention that they expect a minimum of 50 hours work per week. Also, the micromanagement is a little overbearing and disrespectful, besides all of the time that it wastes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Help employees develop their career and integrate it with their interests/skills. If employees are meeting their goals and expectations then don't bother them with so much micromanaging and meetings, which lower morale and waste precious time of associates. Recognize your employees' strengths and be flexible with them on how they achieve their work goals. I was aware of some managers that did this, but it was by far not the majority. Those teams with trusting and flexible managers had much happier employees with far less associate turnover.

    Good place to learn starting out, lots of opportunities to advance.

    Cons

    Not ideal if you are seeking work/life balance and especially if you have children and any with additional needs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Look at an Associate for their loyalty over the span of many years and if they end up on the wrong team, help direct them where they can be most valuable to the company.

    It's a job. I'm employed.

    Cons

    If you have a two year degree you are locked in for three solid years at the same level with no opportunity to climb the ladder even when you're performing as well as and doing the same job as the people with four year degrees.

    Spend more time training team leads, invest in more job specific training before putting associates in their roles, create a more positive, team atmosphere.

    Good package. Good perks. No need to use your brain. All you need to get this job is to know how to click your mouse. Period

    Cons

    Cerner rips off freshers by giving so called a great package to start with. The skills you learn here are so bad that even a 10th std kid can do a better job. All you need to do is to type and to click your mouse on various windows. Once you stick here, its inevitable to leave this company because no one in the current market can recognize your typing/mouse clicking skills. This is definitely a job for the housewives.

    Pros

    Great company if you are fresh out of school and looking for experience; there are good training programs for young hires. Of this company could be a fit if you enjoy or want to experience being part of multi-national corporation with thousands of employees. Good medical benefits if you work on the main campus in Kansas City.

    Cons

    You are a small fish in a large pond. They profess to work hard and play hard, but as an acquired company we did not see any of the play hard experience. The pay is generally low unless you are a manger or higher, and it is very difficult to be transferred or promoted if the pool of associates is large for your area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Try to know and relate to your staff, and try to mentor and not rely on annual reviews to perform that role.

    Pros

    Easy and quick interviews. The headquarters is nice but come to find out you won't be working there but another building a mile away so if you want to use the free gym or the cafeteria you have to drive to headquarters.

    Cons

    Me and several people I know personally interviewed then we all got an email saying how great of feedback we got and they are excited about us "potentially" joining the team and that they were working on the logistics of their training academy and will be in touch soon with the next steps in the process. Got email after a month and a half asking if I am still interested but they they still don't have a start date. This from the start to now has been 3 months and no start date.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't interview people unless you're ready to offer a start date. You'll miss out on good employees because we can't all sit around and wait and you aren't the only employer in town.
