    Pros

Excellent benefits including insurance, vacation time, PTO, 401K match, Stock Purchase Plans, company outings to local sport events, etc. I feel like the company really takes care of it's employees and tries to retain them. There are many sites as well so often times employees can easily transfer to new jobs at other locations. In general, managers tend to reward good, hard work.

    Cons

Cost of living in Charleston is lower so in general pay is lower as compared to similar jobs in other areas. Like most other jobs, company politics can play a role in hiring/promotions.

    Advice to Management

Continue to work to retain employees and maintain employee satisfaction.

    Pros

Small departments and a lot of opportunity for diversifying your resume. Flexible work schedule and business casual work environment.

    Cons

Lower than average wages for area and skill set. Can feel to be treated more as a machine than as a human. Very fast paced and will be expected to accomplish multiple tasks in short period of time, without any errors, which can be very difficult in a GMP environment.

    Advice to Management

Give employees more respect and attempt to listen to the advice that is given from technicians.

    Pros

Even though Charles River is a global organization, there is a lot of emphasis on team work from site to site. Many of my colleagues that I interact with on a daily basis are all over the world (Canada, Europe, Asia, in the US but outside of Massachusetts) but we still work well as a team and support each other to achieve our goals. As a member of the marketing department, I have the pleasure of working with a variety of different groups within the company including operations, sales and the scientific staff. There is also a lot of room for growth within the company. I have seen a lot of my colleagues grow and move between departments when opportunities arise. The company does a great job of retaining employees.

    Cons

It can be difficult at times to find a work life balance as the company expects more from its employees without increasing resources. However, this is not unique to Charles River, but a trend across industries and corporations.

    Advice to Management

Continue to encourage employees with positive reinforcement when deserved. It can really boost moral and create increaseed productivity.
