I have been working at Charles Schwab full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

This company lets you balance work and family, its a nice friendly clean place to work.
Training program is awesome, a little fast paced, so you need to listen.
Good health care, dental and eye.
Paid 4 weeks sabbaticals every 5 years. (You can add on 2 more weeks of vacation.) Total 6 weeks at once!

    Cons

If your in the Financial side of the business (not tech) and you don't have your series 7 license, it can be tough in getting advanced to senior position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company does a lot of promoting within. Yes if management is your cup of tea, then you will have the opportunity to put your name in the hat if your qualified.

    Pros

The base pay is very good, pretty equal to what you with other companies in similar roles. They are not super pushy with sales.

    Cons

The company is not very good at rolling new things out, they either keep delaying things or roll it out with flaws, that end up impacting you hitting your goal. Is a 24/7 facility with very few "standard hour" positions on the entry level.

I worked at Charles Schwab full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Pick your schedule from plenty of options. Excellent 401k match. Opportunities to take on more responsibilities just by approaching your manager and showing initiative. Tell your manager what department you want to eventually be in and they'll put you in touch with the right people.

    Cons

At the time, the compensation was on the low end of the industry average, but they have since re-worked the pay scale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the employee development.

I have been working at Charles Schwab full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The culture is nice. People can be great. There's flexibility in hours. If you enjoy sales there are a lot of different directions you can further your career.

    Cons

Salaries are not as competitive. There's a lot of "inner circle" politics. Some managers are pretty absent. If you're not a salesy person sometimes options are limited.

I have been working at Charles Schwab full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Endless opportunities if you can perform your core job.

    Cons

Leadership does not offer a lot of support when trying to advance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create and prioritize a leadership development program for employees looking to do more for the company. There is a lot more interest in development then there are leaders looking to develop.

I have been working at Charles Schwab full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Emphasis on doing the right thing for the client, so no pressure to push clients into the wrong investments to make quotas or incentives.

    Cons

Time away from the phones is minimal, so if that kind of work is manageable for you you'll enjoy it.

    Cons

Low pay; have be on the phones for a while before you can move into another area. A little bit like a sweatshop.

I have been working at Charles Schwab full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

-Company has a strong moral compass. You can sleep well at night
-Very good relationship with employees. Seldom do you see layoffs, division removals, etc..
-Clients like doing business with the company (for the most part - see below)
-If you are smart and work hard, easy to move up quicker than other companies

    Cons

-Technology is very dated. Most employees still run Office 2003 and Windows XP, along with mainframe applications
-Employees tend to be older and have little ambition. This creates a workforce of people who are not good at innovating and are averse to change
-Client-facing technology is also dated, and this makes it hard for clients to do business with Schwab. This also creates many client escalations and stress-points
-Pay and bonuses are lower than other broker/dealers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move your stale, non-innovative employees out of the company. Shift away from mainframe and get the company into the 21st century. Stop telling everyone you are a "Challenger Brand" when you hardly ever innovate on anything important. It's annoying and no employees believe in it.
