Stressful

Store Manager (Former Employee)
El Cerrito, CA

I worked at Check 'n Go full-time for more than a year

ProsCo Workers, most of the regular customers

ConsThe training was minimal. I came in as a Store Manager and the manager that trained me wasn't even doing her job correctly. I had to learn most things on my own. The district managers kept changing. I was there for 1 year 4 months and I had to deal with 4 different district managers and they all functioned differently. When my associate quit I was left to work Monday through Saturday with no one to help me. Then they expected me to make tons of calls three times a day, everyday. Then after emailing and emailing I finally got candidates for interviews and out of all of the candidates I said yes to they hired the one that could only work like 2 hrs on certain days...and that person kept calling in. The rules changed constantly. They constantly added more and more work and most stores only had 1 employee (our district was always short staffed). I was overjoyed when another company finally contacted me and offered me a position with pay that I shouldve been making there.

Advice to Senior ManagementBefore you request so much of your employees, how about you actually try to do all the tasks that yourself in one day. If you manage to get everything done the way you expect your employees to, then you should give actual coaching on how you achieved all of the tasks requested.

Tough Work

Store Manager (Former Employee)
San Antonio, TX

I worked at Check 'n Go full-time for more than a year

ProsFace to face interaction with customers. You really get to know the people coming into the store.

ConsIf those customers default on a loan, you become a collector. That great customer service gets thrown away as you assume the role of a creditor.

STRESSFUL

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)

I have been working at Check 'n Go full-time for more than a year

ProsDecent pay, ok hours, easy job.

ConsThe company is crazy! They have ridiculous expectations but does not provide us with the proper staff or working equipment to do so. Employees never last at least 3 months due to poor training or they learn whats really going on within the company. Everyday there is something new to add to our list of unrealistic goals. They expect for us to go crazy with marketing or getting people to pay us but the truth is we have NO control over it! No matter how many times we call if they do not intend to pay us they wont! And we can only market at so many places, then what? We get kicked out of places or threatened of we use flyers everywhere and having us stand out on the streets holding a sign does NOT improve our growth and it demeaning. So much to complain about I cant even go on!!!

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your CSRs with respect and appreciation, we are the ones who hold up your store as we do all the work!!!

I have been working at Check 'n Go

ProsFlexible schedule, customers very loyal.

ConsConstant pressure to perform with unrealistic goals.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to understand what it's like in the field. Most DOD s have never managed a store and have no idea what it's like.

csr

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)

I have been working at Check 'n Go part-time for less than a year

ProsHandling regular customers, doing the bb and regz are simple, but thats not even a fraction of a fraction of the entire job.

ConsThe goals at this place are SO unrealistic. They push and push and push with no compensation, and if you hit your goals,(netspend, ect...) you get a "nice job" and maybe a JEANS DAY. WOO HOO! Managers get bonuses(and it's hard even for them to get), but not CSRs. I was told I would start out at 9.00/hour and only make 8.50.

Better than nothing

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)

I have been working at Check 'n Go part-time for more than a year

ProsGood hours, get to meet awesome customers better than working minimum wage in a retail store

ConsHave to drive to the bank everyday and to other stores often with
absolutely no gas reimbursement. All Associates are required to stand on the street corner waving a sign. Have to put flyers in car windshields in the rain snow sleet or hail. always understaffed

Advice to Senior ManagementYou want us to run the company like our own personal business so stop micromanaging

Very Stressfull

Store Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at Check 'n Go full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe company gives you the ability to create your own strategies for success.

ConsThe company does not care about their employees. They have such a high turnover that they are always understaffed which makes their employees overworked and a very stressful environment. Upper management blames it on "Poor Execution". The regional manger has either lost touch with day to day operation responsibilities and the (lack of) tools that are given to carry them out, or simply doesn't care :(

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate a bonus program for Customer Service Representatives to give them encouragment in their jobs. They are overworked and under paid and are expected to do the same work as their manager, when their manager has the day off. They are held accountable but are not compensated. No wonder they don't stick around :(

Easy Job but horrible company to work for!

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)

I worked at Check 'n Go part-time

ProsThe work schedule was great for me. A CSR for my location was only allowed to work 20hrs/week. So I only worked 3-4 days a week. I had a great manager that alternated working every other Saturday with me. The job it self is very easy!

ConsWorst company I have EVER worked for! Upper management is so unappreciative of any good you do. All they care about is the numbers. My manager was great but that is about it. There is a high turn over rate at this company so if other locations near you need you to fill in at their store they NEVER hesitated to ask. For a couple month span on my every day off, my mgr was calling to ask if I could come in to work at another store. Upper mgmt was always changing so nothing was constant. I also hated ripping people off! That is the nature of the job though. You have to get the customer to take out highest amt approved even if you know they cannot afford it. I also didn't feel very safe working here after dark. Some customers were very nice but some can get a little out of hand and most of the time you are the only employee working. The only time you work with your manager is mostly on Fridays, the 1st of the month and 3rd of the month. It was the easiest job I have ever had with great hours but the cons definitely out way the good for me.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart appreciating your employees in the stores! When an employee quits or is let go, get a new hire in there asap! It is extremely stressful and a huge pain for other stores to have to fill in on their days off!

Stressful! Company expectations are unrealistic. It is never enough. You are always pushed to do more, more, more. Whew!

Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at Check 'n Go

ProsYou have Sundays off and no late nights. That's about it.

ConsUnrealistic expectations, you are responsible for things you have no control over, like the debt of the store. How can you control if someone decides to pay or not, but yet you are held responsible. You are expected to market for new loans, check cashing, and reactivated customers. You are evaluated every month and the bar just goes up and up. It's like some manic version of the high jump. any sense of accomplishment is gone in a blink of an eye and on to "now what can you do to make more than quota.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet associate work full time so there is time to try to meet marketing expectations and feel remotely safe.
