ProsPeople were great in the group. late shift pay difference.
Took good care of employees, cheap lunches, free pop machines, apperciation days

ConsNot being able to say who you truly work for. Got old stating your bill pay service, the banks didn’t want you to state right away that they outsourced their online banking.

A good big company in a good industry, if you're into that sort of thing.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Norcross, GA

ProsTheir products and services improve people's lives by enabling better financial management.
Most of the people are competent, caring, and respectful.
Beautiful campus with unusually good amenities for the Southeast.
Good business model and market share.

ConsLittle to no chance for meaningful equity participation below the executive management level.
Limited equity upside given size and slowness of company relative to other options.
Now a part of Fiserv, an even larger and slower company based in Milwaukee.
Senior management tends to micromanage as if it is a much smaller company, limiting decisionmaking, innovation and risk taking.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet out of the way. Let people take more ownership and reward risk-taking behavior. Remember the customer in everything you do.

    Good working environment

ProsGood people, working environment. Will prove a good foundation for a career in financial services without having to work all hours.

ConsTechnology is quite outdated with no real clear path to getting better.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep and reward those most knowledgeable with your technology - these are the folks that can really drive value for your clients.

If you work at CheckFree, keep looking for other employment opportunities.

    APL Software Developer (Former Employee)

ProsYou will be working with a lot of very nice smart people. Some of your colleagues will be extremely well-educated and intelligent. The work can be very challenging, but there is usually little sense of great pressure. Permission to take earned time off is freely given. "Office politics" at the level of the average worker seem to be minimal. The compensation is competetive (however, see next question). Educational funding is available, and the usual benefitsi package is available. Most management personnel seem to be competent and are in their positions because of this competence, not as a result of favoritism.

ConsThere are periodic layoffs in spite of profitable business results, so even when business is good, any sense of job security is fragile. The compensation is not outstanding; if you can do the work at CheckFree, you can probably command a higher salary to do similar work elsewhere in the financial services industry, at least in "normal times," not what we are experiencing at this date.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your workers as human beings.
