I have been working at Chevron full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Every other Friday off
Annual bonus
Salary
Value system
Lots of different opportunities
Cons – Who you know gets you promoted - not accomplishments, value added, or delivery/behaviors
The majority of managers aren't leaders and drive the promotion by who you know
Still a culture that is not accepting of change and struggles with having multiple generations of workers
Advice to Senior Management – Individuals shouldn't be managers just because they have put in time at Chevron. Would love to see a company assessment of leadership skills and start targeting people for management positions based on individuals' ability to work with people to set and accomplish goals aligned with Chevron's ROI and goals
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at Chevron full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great group of people. Very conciansious of everyone. Careful planning is paramount in everything and it shows in the stakeholder returns.
Cons – Sometimes some people can slow the decision process.
Advice to Senior Management – Reduce the number of analytical tools that do the same thing. Time is wasted to find the right tool.

I worked at Chevron full-time for less than a year
Pros – Empowerment, Culture, Resources at your disposal, Excellent facilities and state of the art technology, Commitment to excellence, helpful managers and coworkers who want to see you succeed and contribute to group goals
Cons – Some software is out of date and difficult to use, sometimes processes feel very static with no room for organic process freedom.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire me again please

I have been working at Chevron full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – This is a very good company that is very sucessful. It is a company with excellent benefits and often employees work for many years if not for their entire career. It is not unusual to hear of parents and granparents being former employees. It is a "process" oriented company, definitely engineering driven. There is a strong comittment to safety and doing business the right way. Very professional environment (San Ramon headquarters)
Cons – It is a very big company and one can feel like a number. In recent years they practice a lot of "off-shoring of jobs" which is unfortunate.
Advice to Senior Management – Although this is a "global" company, this is an American company and Americans are good workers too!!

I worked at Chevron full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Competitive salaries; excellent benefits including company match on 401(k) in addition to a defined pension benefit - very few companies offer this type of retirement benefit; excellent advancement opportuinites for scientist in the technical career ladder; great comradery in work groups.
Cons – Your impressions of Chevron will only be as good as the supervisor to which you report. That is true of any company. Most of Chevron's management is well-qualified, but there are some bad apples.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep challenging technical contributors even those who are at the high end of the technical career ladder.

I have been working at Chevron full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great work life balance! They are genuinely concerned about your safety (they don't just talk the talk, but walk the walk) Sometime it even seems so much so that it gets in the way of things, but it is a good thing overall. Great praise for when you do a good job. Great co-workers! Above average pay. They let you do your job and don't micromanage you as long as your not screwing up. A feeling a really making a difference.
Cons – If you run into problems it is difficult to find the right person to talk to. No one seem to know the correct protocol or even if there is one. Steep learning curve to the job. Difficult to actually get your foot into the door here, but once you do...your golden! Benefits are good, but I have had better.
Advice to Senior Management – When starting a new employee, keep close tabs on them, especially when they arn't coming from another refinery. The learning curve here is difficult for someone who is new to the industry. Once they make it past their first year, it gets better, but there should really be a better mentoring program in place for first year managers. I love it here though......that first year was tough...But I plan to spend the rest of my career at Chevron. Thanks for the faith in hiring me! I will do my best to make you proud.
