The Painter/Blaster is responsible for the preparation of metal surfaces for painting, and also paints components.

Painter Blaster (Current Employee)
Harvey, LA

I have been working at Chicago Bridge & Iron full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe employee must have the ability to read safety requirements, instructions in the correct use and maintenance of shop tools, be able to read and understand methods and procedures that are present on drawings, layout work, and just specifications.

Consi worked at cb&i for almost 6 years as a painter blaster, ive seen lots of people come and go, it a great place to work, work got slow and that had a 60% layoff but other then that its a grreat place.I enjoyed every day working for this company they were always very nice to work for I never had any problems with any situations on the job.

Advice to Senior ManagementI was with Shaw during the transfer and throughout the whole affair. I can honestly say the work I did was good. Maybe not the best, but I became "friends" with some of my callers from over the world.

I have enjoyed my 10+ years at CB&I and advanced my career.

Senior Project Manager (Current Employee)
Tyler, TX

I have been working at Chicago Bridge & Iron full-time for more than 10 years

ProsMulti-facteted company with many opportunities
Annual company contribution to employee 401-k at all levels
Competitive pay and benefits
Well managed overall at the executive level with just a few exceptions
Many hidden benefits such as personal cell phone discounts and cheap MS Office for home computer

ConsVery bureaucratic and unflexible regarding company procedures
Tries to implement a "one size fits all" concept to standardize all offices worldwide
Poor bonus policy below executive level for above average project performance
Difficult to negotiate pay or benefits after hiring on. Make your best deal when hiring on. You're pretty much locked in afterward, even with exceptional performance reviews.

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement a defined bonus structure to reward exceptional performance at all project levels
Allow more flexibility to standard company procedures. There can still be a coherent structure to all company locations without the rigidity.
Executives should hold more townhall sessions at each location to appear more transparent and less aloof.
Offer or be open to improve benefits in addition to salary increases. I know someone who left because the company refused to consider one extra week of vacation.
