I have been working at Children's National Health System full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great and smart people to work with, the hospital's mission, variety of projects to an extent

    Cons

Constant turnover, you have to find a position outside the organization to advance, little focus on professional development, competing goals and priorities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in developing your employees and be transparent about growth potential

I have been working at Children's National Health System part-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great environment, the diverse atmosphere is welcoming. Working around a great group of people sets the tone for an outstanding functional network.

    Cons

Faced with the some challenges is the lack of growth opportunities to support future employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great Managers are rare. The best managers build trust with their team, every day, in every meeting, so that eventually critically important and complex tasks can be delegated away.

    Pros

Actual benefits. I've never heard of another institution where postdocs have 401(k)s.

    Cons

While the faculty are pretty good, many of my colleagues weren't the brightest.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more independent thinkers/innovators so laboratories work smarter, not just harder.

I have been working at Children's National Health System full-time

    Pros

Great Pay, Nice opportunities for learning. Great for entry level position.

    Cons

There isn't much loyalty here. They just recently sold the entire IT dept to a third party company with hopes we would continue with a job; Which is why I'm on here in the first place. Children's is the best in the business and will do what ever they need to remain that way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be a little more transparent, keeping secrets doesn't create any trust. Invest the money and time you need to the dept. to get the expectations you want. There is a lot of the pass the bucket mentality there and lack of communication. The lack of communication on ALL levels creates a little sense of chaos.

    Pros

Everyone works really hard, and are starting to tackle the hard issues that prevent this company from being a 5 star rated company.

    Cons

Department managers operate in silos more often than working together as a team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement a mentor program for young professionals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good job on focusing on children and families. Shuttles need to run more often, and get a Starbucks on site!
