Good way to make quick money, not good in the long run

Server (Current Employee)
Mechanicsburg, PA

I have been working at Chili's part-time for less than a year

ProsBrinker International (the company that owns Chili's) has an excellent corporate structure. The training is awesome, they really strive to have very well integrated teams, and they're huge on feedback from all levels of employees. They are also super flexible with your schedule and managers work closely with you to help you out. And you only have to tip out 1% of your sales to the bartender.

ConsThey are so picky with who they hire that they have a hard time staying fully staffed. The way that they do sections (you can have 10 tables at a time) makes it really difficult to provide awesome customer service, and they hold you responsible for it. Also you work with a partner in your section, so if you partner is struggling then that can get you behind. So overall you'll make money because you have so many tables, but people can really be jerks because you just don't have time to pay attention to them as soon as they decide they need water.

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure out ways to hire more quickly so that sections can be a more manageable size for servers. Also don't hold servers responsible for subpar service when servers are given half of the dining room between them and their partner.

Food Server

Food Server (Current Employee)
Syracuse, NY

I have been working at Chili's full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFast paced fun job. You can make money as a server in a Chili's, you just have to move fast and give the customers a reason to love you.

ConsTimes are tough, so people are not going out as much. While you will make money, you will have to budget carefully so that the lean times will not break you. My store in upstate NY was a tough place to make money in January.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake some time to teach your store managers the skill of coaching. There seems to be great opportunity to coach employees rather than just disciplining them when something goes wrong.

Life really does happen here

Server, Q A, Trainer, Bartender (Current Employee)
Monroe, NY

I have been working at Chili's full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAt chilis the staff works together as a big family. Everyone works as a team to make sure that our customers are happy and receive the best dining service experience possible. The hours are flexible. The managers are always encouraging and willing to help. I have multiple positions within the restaurant and that is something they really want their employees to have. I have the opportunity to make great money every week. I would say I make anywhere from $650-$900 every week depending on certain circumstances. (typical of a restaurant to be slow, poor tippers, etc..)

ConsI believe everyone should be a server for one week at least one time in their life because I deal with really rude, ignorant, stubborn, and obnoxious people everyday. So I would say only downfall is dealing with these types of cutovers. But your going to experience that in any restaurant.
