    Pros

Compensation is competative, and benefits are good

    Cons

My job requires about 300 days a year of travel, but that is what I signed for, so I can't complain.

I worked at Choice Hotels part-time for more than a year

    Pros

I enjoyed working here because of the variety of people I got to meet everyday. Also, I loved our repeat guests. Choice is a good company to work for because you can get discounts at other choice hotels.

    Cons

Like any business you will sometimes have to deal with rude or upset customers. This was pretty much the only bad thing about working here.

The pay is not so great. Hours can get harry at times, but once its worked out you know they will not be changed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people like our manager Greg. He is very nice, easy to work for.

I have been working at Choice Hotels full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work/Life Balance. Flexibility. Pay. Hotel Discounts. Fun People. Good Relationships with other employees. Continued incremental improvements keep moving us forward.

    Cons

Politics can go awry when in the midst of a change making forward progress difficult because those doing the work are afraid to take action not knowing how leadership might react. They are even more afraid to speak out.

Little compassion from those in highest leadership positions for the employees; however, this is mitigated somewhat by the compassion shown by some in lower leadership positions.

Diversity is discussed but I believe the conversations are not being taken to heart yet. I'm hopeful there will be positive changes in the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Truly accept diversity. Accept that aside from race, gender, and the other typical topics of a discussion on diversity, personality type, communication style, and learning styles should also be considered. Once they look beyond the typical corporate behavior to recognize what each individual brings to the table and recognize the true value that person brings, then they will have achieved true diversity.

    Pros

Very friendly culture and great work life balance.

    Cons

Not a high performing environment. It does not seem like the best or smartest get promoted

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talent is not recognized enough here and when you look at management you wonder how some of them were promoted.

I worked at Choice Hotels full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The company has a good retention rate for employees. They tend to offer a fairly positive work-life balance and many perks to make the experience there enjoyable.

    Cons

The departments tend to run lean so there is not a lot of room for internal advancement unless you are willing to change departments - even then it is often a lateral move. It is probably not good for person's in the middle of their professional development, but good for new grads to get a quick start or good for people who have hit their title cap and just want to have fulfilling work until they retire.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company would probably benefit from more flexibility in tele-commuting that is offered to all employees, not decided on by department manager.

I worked at Choice Hotels full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The management stood by the employees, relatively easy work, good coworkers.

    Cons

Weird hours (7am-3pm or 3pm-11pm shifts), little room for advancement, having to deal with crazy visitors. For example, I had occasional visits from police to address problems with the guests, people could be very degrading from time to time, and there were occasional interactions with heavy drug users and other types of crime. But now you know to expect this coming into the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep doing what you're doing
