Started out as a great place to work, but upper mgmt has really changed and now is one of the worst places I ever work.

Casualty Claims Examiner Ll (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsEnjoyed the job at first, was a great "work life balance", challenging, variety of work and able to expand my knowledge and skills.

ConsThere was a change in Management and supervisors last year, so since that change, the leadership is a mess and all they worry about is the bottom line $. They started to downsize and expect quality and quantity and to give them your life. You work 10-12 hours a day and when your not there, all you worry about is what you have to do. It is not just casualty claims, it is the whole office, somehow they are not in hell. Management wants results and they keep rising the bar higher and higher. Forget lunch and 8 hour days, those days are over at Chubb ,and if you take vacation, you'll come back to a nightmare and will take month's to get out. The leadership and management is horrible, you are just a number there and can be replaced for less. If they do not no like you, the witch hunt starts, till they get rid of you. It is sad, it was such a great place to work and now the leadership has gone to hell.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to care about the employee's that have made Chubb and stop treating them like a prisoner.

    Poor middle management

Prosbenefits, flex time, personal time off

ConsInexperienced management who play favorites and reward obedience over intelligence.

Advice to Senior ManagementKnow your stuff, don't rely on popular people who talk a good game but really know nothing. Keep an open mind and listen to everyone. Don't play favorites. It really brings down everyone's morale.

Chubb at one tie was a very good company. Employees were valued and no one left. It now just a run of the mill ins co.

    Underwriting Assistant (Current Employee)
    Dallas, TX

ProsIf able to take advantage of the benefits some of them are good. Up to management.

ConsManagement does not know their job and delegates to employees to do for them. Unfair to some employees and not others. Discriminate on raises and promotions.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to focus on their employees. Send out a survey that really is confidential. When you do you will see how bad it really is there

The worst insurance company I've worked at.

    Underwriter (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsIf you want to get your foot in the door of a large insurance company

ConsEverything. Management that is against its employees and has the "gotcha in the act" attitude. Always micromanaging and not working as a team, rather looking for their own spotlight. Every time an email is sent out underwriters have to have every manager included on the email and if they forget someone then they are called into a managers' office and told how awful they are. Its the most negative environment I've ever experienced. If you have common sense and are intelligent, watch out. If you have drool running out of your mouth and a yes man kind of person then you are fine.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn how to properly manage people rather than chastise them. Positive coaching will help the company improve and the morale of the work environment. Having employees be afraid if they breathed the wrong way is a horrible way to work and live.

Low pay, excessive workloads, limited advancement opportunities, and very political.

    Underwriter (Current Employee)

ProsThe company has a good reputation in the marketplace with solid financials, which gives job security. Benefits are decent and there's a good amount of paid time off but you are always too overwhelmed to actually use all of the days.

ConsThe work loads are extremly excessive which make it tough to meet corporate goals and expectations. The entire company is under-staffed and upper management has made no attempts to actually hire additional employees. The company is beyond conservitive and rarely changes with the marketplace. The systems are literally from the 1980's which creates a massive amount of manual processes. There is an over-emphansis on diversity and promotions are not solely granted on talent or skills.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf your going to expect one employee to do the job of three, offer additional compensation. Promote employees based on talent and skill, not gender/ethnicity. Invest in new systems/technology and evolve the company.

    Beyond Conservative

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsI cannot think of one.

ConsIts all who you know. No respect for employees. Just a constant 'take take take' attitude from management, even when our company out performs all others in the industry - they cannot show one ounce of appreciation. Instead they layoff numberous employee's who have shown nothing but loyalty to the company by spending their entire 25+ year careers here.

Advice to Senior ManagementBegin to appreciate those who have made this company what it is and for gods sake improve the annual increases - Full time professionals in your company are having tough time making ends meet.

Wasted my time Working for Chubb”..

    Underwriting (Current Employee)

    Pros9-5 job,
    Generous PTO time ,
    Survived the financial metldown well.
    pension plan
    401k 4%match by company.
    Decent benefits
    Flexable working hours...

ConsSome middle managers are not suited for their jobs - poor people skills, lack of knowledge - but seem to hold managerial positions simply because they have been at the company for a long time.

The overall salaries are low compared to other companies.

The workload is crazy and one needs to be able to compartmentalize and leave some things undone in order to not be overworked. Management sets goals that are impossible to meet worklod assignments are not equally distributed. This puts some people in a position where they have to stay late or come in on weekends to try to keep up even though their salaries don't warrant this kind of dedication. Advancement is impossible and goes to least qualified.

Advice to Senior Managementa requirement should be put in place for Management to be able to process the work. When this is done maybe then Management will respect employees, not to demean, set them up for failure and set goals that are impossible to meet.

Another requirement for Management is they need to attend classes for how to effectively lead employees and people skills.

Senior management jumped on the outsourcing bandwagon for wrong reasons resulting in many jobs being Eliminated unnecessarily. Vendors used under performed so much so that many employees were hired back from vendors...
