I worked at Ciber full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If you're just starting career, can be an ok first job- but treat it like that. Don't settle in; continue job search and get out of CIBER as soon as you can.

    Cons

Horrible corporate culture. Leadership lacks integrity & accountability. Shysters.
    No opportunity for growth.
Account executives I worked with were clueless and only good for an occasional free lunch.
Regional manager was inaccessible, out of touch and didn't care about clients or consultants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get it together. Learn and implement the basics of operating a business: contract management, financials, remedial organizational skills for meeting time lines.

    Cons

Would not work for or with this company ever again. Management plays games and does not follow protocol.

I have been working at Ciber full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Didn't have to talk to anyone. No oversight from a boss. No one cared what I was doing or where I was going

    Cons

Completely disconnected. From their staff and from their clients. At best this is just a body shop with 50% mark ups and no value add. No reason to use these guys when so many other companies actually CARE about their clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Walk the walk. Flying in to town just to sit in a meeting room and not talk to your staff belittles and demotivates. Get out in the field and actually talk to a client or contractor about what actually matters. You'll find a great deal of favoritism going on, no action being taken, and frustrated clients who are giving up and going elsewhere. Also, get new recruiters because yours are costing you a ton in lost opportunity.

I worked at Ciber full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Nice contract staff. Many get to work from home. Very little oversight or direction. If you want to be left alone, this place is perfect.

    Cons

Ciber very rarely renews vendor contracts, simply because they don't have the volume. All staff receive very low end compensation and there is no room for growth. The Management and Sales teams are a constantly rotating stream of "used car salesmen" with no expertise, no leadership ability, and no connection with their customer. This company gets eaten by their competition every single day because they don't follow any of the most basic principles of business or sales. Every one of the Sr. Management staff I met touted themselves as "Thought Leaders" yet knew nothing about this business or their customer. Collectively they can't agree to a plan and stick to it and so every facet of the business suffers. Ciber is completely lacking of leadership and direction and their customers, their employees, and their stock suffers from it. Why would you do business with this company? Even their employees can't answer that one.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Return to a branch-governed model! You need local leadership to connect with the customer, set the tone for the region, to coach, motivate, and inspire, and to drive local branding. Changing to a global practices model moves your further from your customer.

I worked at Ciber full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

They offer a decent salary. They offer decent -- but not outstanding-- benefits for full-time employees. At the time I worked there, there was lots of talk of moving the business model from butt-in-chairs contracting to project work, which is generally far more interesting and fulfilling. Some staff augmentation engagements can last multiple years.

    Cons

The opportunities for project work are a tiny fraction of what the company has to offer employees -- over 90% of the work is "staff augmentation" (butts in chairs). If you don't want to be paid to be a butt in a chair, you should look elsewhere. Opportunities for company-paid training do not exist -- you're expected to stay current on your own money. Often requested (required) to put additional hours on the job without billing on the timesheet, to make up for operational emergencies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide what you want to be: a body-for-hire "staff augmentation" contract house, or a project-based contract house., Don't lure people into the company with prospects/hopes of doing project work "once you've proven yourself."

I worked at Ciber as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Can't site a single positive thing about this company, management or it's mission.

    Cons

Completely dishonest and telling people just what they want to hear. When folks figure out what they are doing Ciber has no shame in admitting with almost a "what are you going to do about it" attitude. They don't care who they step on to get billable hours. They openly lie to the Client and the consultants are expected to support their lies. Problem lies when this unethical company hires contractors with solid work ethics. Oh yeah, you should ask if they like "Kool-Aid" during the interview process. They treat their staff very badly in the presence of the client. I witnessed harassment and called HR who did nothing to stop it. Instead they fired the victim and came after me for reporting it. They practice a hostile work environment and retaliation and dare folks to do something about it. There management team openly admits they believe in a R & D approach to Project Management - "Rob and Deliver". Hmmm....I wonder if they've ever heard of Plagiarism. Their on site managers were managing PMs yet have no PM experience or certifications. Read a book or ask a Senior PM to detail how something works and provide their past templates and POOF! Rob and Deliver.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Kansas City is a small town and the PM network is tight. Word on the street is already out on Ciber as a company and the names of the Ciber Management team.

Secondly, probably be wise to circle back with your prior clients as they don't think much of you or the job you did once the contract is over.

    Pros

The pay is amazing, top of the market really (.NET developer). I worked at home and that had some perks too! Most of the people you work with are alright, but the interview process is flimsy so you get some paper tigers as well.

    Cons

I have never worked for such a rude and disconnected organization. My manager was probably the meanest person I have ever worked with, seriously. Everyday we used to refer to our daily work life as "Ciber Survivor", you never really know what is going to happen! Blindsides! Treachery! 16 hour days are common,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Relax, yelling, kicking, and screaming just makes you look like a immature. The amount of ethical breaches at the management level is astounding!

I worked at Ciber full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There remain lots of good people who care about their work and their clients.

    Cons

A deterioration of commitment to employees and clients. The sole focus is shareholders. But with only one leg of the stool, it is tipping over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO stated that he sees employees as "tools". He pushed a culture of them vs. us (execs vs. everyone else). He brought in new leadership that had the same lack of compassion and human decency. How do you advise those who have no conscience?
