    Chicago Style Consulting

    Client Partner (Former Employee)

ProsThe organization has some great people who understand the verticals. Sadly, Ciber does not make an effort to keep them. Ciber continues to bleed its top performers to CedarCreston, Deloitte and Oracle due to culture..not necessarily $$. Firm has potential but only with the right leadership.

ConsPoor leadership. Company is trying to transition from a body shop to a Big 5 consulting firm with poor execution at the helm.
Very contentious/negative environment with Senior Consulting staff in evaluating potential deals and pipeline.
Chicago style leadership - Intimidation, Fear and 24x7 work schedule.

Advice to Senior ManagementEvaluate what kind of culture you want in an effort to build a successful organization.
Mixing the old management with the new management. Both of which are disconnected from the employees. Very impersonal.
Have a real marketing plan with Cloud.

    Toxic Sales Culture

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood base pay and benefits Some great talent.

ConsSales Culture - No cross sell capability among practices unless you want to jeopardize your commission - every practice owns their customers and will not engage others...very silo ed . A very old school sales mentality...no marketing demand generation...cold calling is king...use you for your contacts...funnel dying...lack of references... Extremely poor executive sales leadership...very tactical no strategy or vision. Re-aligning organizational structure does not address the sales culture!!

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on culture and moving to a current state sales model. Spend money on marketing and demand generation. Your funnel is dying - inflating the funnel with non qualified opportunities to justify the sales play initiative makes everyone feel better - until the next quarter when your close ratio drops from a pitiful 9% to less than 5% - then you will blame the client partner and don't address the real issue Turn over is going to run rampant.

A staffing organization trying to be a consulting firm

    Associate Consultant (Former Employee)
    Pittsburgh, PA

ProsThe first interview was over skype which was great since I was looking for jobs in a different city. The hiring process was fast and painless.

ConsSince they were going through a reorganization and a shift in focus, they couldn't really pay attention to the consultants. Lack of direction, involvement and motivation from managers

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of your employees. You have a very high turnover rate and no clear career paths

Worked as sr consultant doing project mgmt- they looked out only for their billable hours/profit, no Dev of its staff

    Senior Project Manager (Former Employee)

Pros- have connections at some major companies
    - use as way to get your foot into door at companies
    - you can get some good opportunities but you need to work the internal organization to make food things happen for you.
    - I did work with some very smart and supportive peers at Ciber

    Cons- horrible corporate Culture
    - no one as ' go to in company to be your advocate, people did not even know who their boss was due to organizational confusion!
    - 'contract house' mentality, did not recognize its staff as its most important assets- lost many people as result
    - expected 100% billable time- no recognition of transition timing ( no fault of associate), yet staff asked to take their pro time or unpaid time off due to timing gaps or poor planning by mgmt

Advice to Senior Management- if you really want to be seen as consultants- you need to that your staff as such

    Capture Manager (Former Employee)
    Washington, DC

ProsThey leave you alone to do your job.

ConsManagement has a difficulty in following the advice of their employees when it comes to business development

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your people.

    Broken Compass

    Sales Executive (Former Employee)

ProsCiber employs some very talented people who have strong knowledge of their industry vertical, market and approach. Ciber is well established in various markets, particularly higher education and its European counterpart has shown strong growth.
Pay and Benefits are standard for the industry.

ConsLeadership - Ciber leadership is in a constant state of change, leaving gaps in leadership. General communication from Denver (HQ) is minimal as it pertains to company status, direction and overall objectives. In my estimation, its questionable how much technology background and organizational experience Dave PeterSchmidt and current staff have in terms of company reorganization and planning. It's as though they can't seem to decide what direction to take Ciber as it pertains to market demand and revenue opportunities. From an integrator that specializes in Lawson, Oracle and SAP, there are no clear market differentiators
to demonstrate a clear path to prospective clients. Additionally, Ciber is playing catch up in its public sector vertical since many of their employees have either left or been terminated.

Employees - Many of Cibers (very talented) consultants are tasked 24x7, making it difficult for them to focus on one client to the next. Mostly burned out from RFP's, conference calls and internal demands, they are not able to focus on what matters most...the customer.

Market - Due to Ciber's reorganization, marketing has been drastically reduced, negatively affecting new market opportunities.

    Stagnant Consulting

    Principal Consultant (Current Employee)

    ProsInitial Pay
    Long-term Contracting Engagements Possible
    Local/on-site Management
    Work/Life Balance

ConsStarted great! Some nice back-and-forth with local management, sense of being on a team; however, in recent years:

HR and mid-/upper-management disinterested in consultants in the last few years.
Previous high standards of techs diminished.
Reorg into Practices in the last few years was confusing (not communicated well) and only served to alienate the staff-augmentation from other Practices.
No sense of being part of the team (they don't know what to do with long-term contractors).
No pay increases in over five years for most consultants at my location.
    No hope of career advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe reorganization that went into effect in the last couple of years has not been well planned nor well executed. There's a large segment of the workforce at CIBER which operates in a vacuum; it has no guidance or goals from their Practice.

Please explain why you have been engaged in staff-augmentation for well over a decade and still haven't found a way to get accurate assessments of your analysts (and then hide behind the fact you "can't determine worth by anything other than time submissions" during review cycles). If I were that inept at a core function of my job, I would be very ashamed.

Always caves in to the clients requests, at the expense of the employees

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsWilling to overpay for contractors at the beginning of implementations

ConsPM's typically do not step in to drive a project; typically allow the client to tell them what they want.

    Used to be awesome

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe furniture was beautiful. Obviously I don't have many nice things to say about ciber due to the downturn of their culture.

ConsCiber used to be a great place to work. The President cared for his people and had an awesome work-life balance. During the Executive turnover betwen 2010-current, they have lost that culture and are faced with a more challenging work environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake some stock in your employees.
