I worked at Ciber full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Worked from home (somewhat) flexible hours...they say they're flexible but you have to be available from 8-5 for the client. Casual dress Work life balance (this is something that is falsely promoted by Ciber) was not as promised I was working anywhere from 12-15 hr days then being penalized for being hospitalized (due to chronic conditions) with only missing one day of work. Worked Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Years Eve and New Years Day. Paid overtime.

    Cons

No stream line communication from management on the consulting side vs. management from the client side. Like walking a tight rope. At any time you can be "released" from a project without a reason as to why (basically laid off). So not a lot of stability. The learning curve is large, cannot ask the client too many questions but yet no one on the consulting side to go to for support. Very frustrating place to work.

    Advice to Management

Make sure communication is stream lined, set the expectation as to reporting to whom. I was told one thing from the client then another from Ciber which contradicted. Cross train the employees so the "consultants" feel like they have more support. Don't make up titles for "inside" Ciber which have no relevance to the job at hand or to the client.

I have been working at Ciber full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours and fair benefits (outside of pay). Management does not micro-managed but is available to assist if needed. Internal training sessions and online courses available.

    Cons

Leadership is a bit clique'ish. Pays on the low end for BAs, but requires 45 hours work/week. They claim the 45 hours is not their requirement, but required by the contract (that they negotiated and signed), so I guess they consider their employees predominantly stupid as well. Two annual merit-pay cycles with no pay increases company-wide. Can you imagine they would write a multi-year contract with the client that does not include an annual increase for the company? Yet they don't share it. Goes back to first comment.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the We and They attitude with respect to employees. Treat people better pay-wise. Consider that they don't earn as much as you and do not share in the company equity, so depend on their salary to live.

I worked at Ciber full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Tried really hard to think of something and all I could come up with is that they give you a nice coffee mug on your first day.

    Cons

I totally agree with the April 18 entry about unrealistic on-boarding requirements. FOURTEEN+ hours of required reading through inane presentations, documents, etc. mandated for your personal time because, naturally you can't do them on the client's time. That doesn't include another EIGHT+ hours of mandated courses related to your specific discipline... again from your personal time. Managers behaving incredibly unprofessionally and not familiar with basic project documentation, yet the "official word" is that they are doing an amazing job for their clients, and growing their business. Meanwhile their stock dives when it's almost worth nothing as it is, and when you check the list of top consulting firms in the U.S. they are at the bottom of the top 100. Icing on the cake? Being emailed in your first week to "explain" that a minimum of 45 hours is required of you every week regardless of workload. (When one is salaried and often forced to work nights and weekends with zero compensation, I think telling folks they MUST work a minimum of 45 hours every week is somewhat silly.)

    Advice to Management

Hire better PMs and face the facts about what is going on at Ciber.

    Pros

Interesting work - good people until they leave.....

    Cons

Constant turnover and upheaval - project staffing can be challenging - corner cutting encouraged to get the deal and to complete the project - people in leadership positions who have no business being there

    Advice to Management

Leadership needs to lead and that includes holding those accountable who don't follow established procedures - work on creating a culture that encourages doing it the right way - no short cuts - Peter Principle on full display at the moment

    Pros

Flexible work hours and close to home.

    Cons

Management lacks the knowledge to hire and maintain a quality workforce. To many people have quit work with this company within their first month.

    Advice to Management

I would say that management needs to take care of it's experienced people. Salaries and benefits are not that good.
