I worked at Ciber full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good pay, decent benefits, low micromanagement - I never felt hovered over and I was trusted to get my work done professionally and competently

    Cons

Little support, no noticeable culture - being placed at the client site with no other Ciber employees and given occasional conference trainings from across the country left me feeling isolated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give new hires some orientation and support, and let them meet other employees in person. The national consulting gig makes it hard for the only employee at a placement to get a feel for the company.

I have been working at Ciber full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Ciber is still small enough that there is not as much red tape and layers of management as larger consulting companies.

    Cons

Executive leadership has experienced a great deal of turnover in the last several years. With that has come other organizational and process changes. I have had to re teach uplinks quite a few times. It has been difficult to have consistent client performance and account planning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a vision and strategy and then consistently work towards it, even as the players may change. Create an organization culture that is also focused on the vision and strategy so everyone is working as a team and going in the same direction.

I worked at Ciber full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great co-workers who really support each other on deployed project teams. The CEO really tries to create a good working environment for the employees.

    Cons

The sales force fails to consistently bring in enough contracts to keep a stable workforce, so there is a constant thrashing about as existing consultants are let go and new consultants hired.

There is also far too much focus on utilizing off-shore coding factories at the expense of having customer-facing developers and team members readily available to react to customer needs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-tool sales to fight for business that is achievable and sustainable.

I have been working at Ciber full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The employees are very good at what they do. There was a lot of flexibility with scheduling and you can get a lot of experience in different industries with large clients.

    Cons

Each office is run differently, so there really isn't a consistent experience. For the most part, everyone is a mercenary but work together well. In some cases it really isn't more than an IT staffing firm. Some benefits were denied by local area director and motivators were usually way out of synch with the workforce. When a $1B company can't pay $250 for a professional membership, it's time to leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a stronger vision and unify everyone to make being a part of Ciber feel like being on one team.

I have been working at Ciber full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Hiring process was faster than expected.

    Cons

They are not in contact enough once placed on a project (i.e. forgot to tell me when my contract date ended on the assignment - typo in the system) Did not follow up with the client on their intentions and that costs me dearly as I move for a T2P position that ended up as a CF...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow up with client and consultants quarterly at least...

    Beware of Managed Services

Former Employee - Senior Business Systems Analyst  in  Orlando, FL
Former Employee - Senior Business Systems Analyst in Orlando, FL

I worked at Ciber full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Salaries are generally higher than market; decent benefits; excellent training and certification opportunities; co-workers for the most part are good people. In general Ciber is a good company and I would have continued to work there were it not for my experience with Managed Services.

    Cons

Managed services (at Disney World) seem to be led by self-centered, egotistical leaders; very cliquish - if you don't belong, don't expect to be treated fairly. Leaders behave as dictators - don't do things their way, you're out; sometimes exhibit petty behavior - indicative of a lack of leadership skills. They also seem to unable to identifiy skilled individuals in thier ranks - give best assignments to those they like best. Some Project Managers treat Business Analysts like subordinates rather than partners - often relegated to clerical duties.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn the meaning of servant leader. Your jobs are to make sure we can do ours. If you are more of a impediment than an enabler, you are doing your job wrong. Don't rate people based on how well you like them, but how well they do their jobs. Don't move people around like pawns - from project to project; I realize you must satisfy the client, but at what cost to your employees? Difficult to maintain confidence...
