    Pros

    Cons

Technology us not always up to date. Process can be little slow in some teams.

    Pros

The department i work in has a great office culture. People are for the most part relaxed and laid back about things. It is expected that you get your work done on time but whatever path you take to get there is up to you.

    Cons

I find that the department is fairly rigid about what technologies it will allow developers to use. Cisco is a big company and as such moves slowly when it comes to adopting new things. Often times there seems to be a "too many cooks in the kitchen" situation when it comes to projects that I work on.

    Pros

good culture, generally good colleagues (&does a good job getting rid of non-performers), flexible schedule, decent salary & great benefits

    Cons

multi-tiered organizational structure makes it hard to get promoted up the chain, politics, fragmented ownership of roles, lots of "process" to get anything done, minimal mktg budget

    Pros

Decent people, Flexibility (work from home), Benefits, Always learning something new, Never bored, Worldwide collaboration.

    Cons

Zero job security or respect - layoffs and frequent outsourcing, infrequent raises, many technical positions not universally recognized but are only valuable to Cisco, 24/7 work, reactive management who don't stick up for their reports and are afraid to escalate issues upstream, stressful panic every end of quarter to micromanage all production support activities in order to meet quarterly earnings.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of too many overpaid Directors and VP's, reduce working from home to create real face-to-face teamwork, seriously embrace job rotation and career advancement, fairly start giving out average or lesser ratings to management versus typical above average ones (regardless of their performances), eliminate unnecessary, expensive travel and costly celebrations, allow travel only to those who need to be on a production floor or in a customer meeting, eliminate bonuses when layoffs, respect seniority and (older) ages, consolidate buildings to eliminate the vast, unused, wasted cubicle or open concept spaces.

    Pros

New CEO coming in, might actually change the way the business is run. Good pay and benefits. Test team has good access to hardware in the labs for testing.

    Cons

Annual layoffs the last 4 years have killed moral and stripped teams of product knowledge. Company is forcing teams to move to Agile even if there isn't a good reason to.

    Advice to Management

Make up you mind what kind of business you want to be in. Stop funding a project for 6 months, throw money and people at, and then trash the project. Learn how to build and sell software.

    Advice to Management
