    Pros

Overall experience very good. Came from an acquisition, so had to learn the Cisco culture. Does give you the ability to move across organizations.

    Cons

Still an hardware company at heart, needs to truly adopt software talent from other companies

A huge company with many opportunities. The main reason to stay would be work-life balance & benefits, not career growth

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Always work to be done
Great ability for work-life balance if you don't mind being on calls all the time

    Cons

    - Tough to deliver meaningful successes in a short timespan
    - Career growth predicated on proving yourself through deliverables...since it takes forever to deliver, expect real growth to take a long time
    - Building consensus through meetings ise more important than actually getting work done

    No opinion of CEO

Flexible schedule, Telecommuting is encouraged, People are generally polite

    Cons

Lot of processes, limited opportunity to growth based on pure talent. While senior management at executive level are smart people, mid-level management is way too bloated and usually engaged with favoritism.

    I worked at Cisco Systems

    Pros

At the time I worked here, there were standard guidelines and processes. The people I worked with were always team players and willing to help and do their part. The company has strong ethical code of conduct.

    Cons

Workload is very high and sometimes people are put into mgt roles when they are not qualified and not given any training. Several years ago, an employee was put through management training before coming eligible to be promoted to a first line manager. Because of the restructuring and layoffs, people are pushed into mgt positions before they are qualified and there is no mentoring. The staff reporting under these managers also suffer. Employees are asked to move into a manager roles without the title and pay increase.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have lower level managers provide input on who should be part of the restructuring.
