Dysfunctional

Business Unit Manager (Current Employee)
London, England (UK)

I have been working at Citi full-time for more than 3 years

ProsTop tier bank in fixed income
Support functions have a culture of working short hours

ConsDysfunctional systems and processes that have grown over time
Nothing works
Inability to get anything changed
Huge cottage industries have built up in support groups such as finance, ops, expense management etc

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on the money being wasted paying for ineffective support groups

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Vice President - Project Manager

Vice President (Current Employee)
London, England (UK)

I have been working at Citi full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood environment to work with

ConsA Capital company with "Comunism politic in terms of salary" The bank said me that I'm paid above the average hence they cannot incresse me the salary as they need to balance salary with other peers. The bank is under expense reduction process, most of salarues frozen since 5 years ago.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Its bad in here.

Vice President (Former Employee)
London, England (UK)

I worked at Citi full-time for more than 5 years

ProsYou are in a banking domain

ConsLife is miserable if you do not have good network.

They recruit for a role of C13 and congratulate you with an offer. Later you see that they offer you a C12.

There is no drive for internal employees. The internal employees will work more number of years to see that someone lesser able with less experience are hired at a more greater pay.

If you have left the job at this company and you have shared your mobile number then they will call and haunt you and bug you with (how to do this and how to do that).
People leave and contractors are hired. Contractors leave and new bunch of contractors are hired.

It is funny to know that few contractors are working for more than 3 years. The amount of money spent on a contractor is 3-4 times paid to a citi employee yet neither citi employee is given a hike nor the contractor is made permanent.

Similar projects are repeated in the project / product life cycle. An entire project gets delivered in say Java. Later the same would get delivered in .NET. (The reasons given are funny like improved look and feel or new features)

I have seen projects where there are 4-6 managers and 2-3 developers working on a project. Each manager has a different meeting scheduled for each developer. The developer has no time to develop and busy in meetings.

Advice to Senior ManagementIts useless to give advice as it would back fire on you. (Its no good to write against anyone in appraisal reviews as they would get to know who has written what)

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Trade Service Professional (Former Employee)
London, England (UK)

I worked at Citi as a contractor for more than a year

ProsFast Paced. In contact with different industries. The satisfaction of delivering a high quality client service that citi prides itself in.

ConsRivalry and miscommunication. Management never honest and direct. Unneccessary stress and blaming in the team.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Do not go there! The most inefficient place ever...

Developer (Former Employee)
London, England (UK)

I worked at Citi full-time for less than a year

ProsNone. I actually felt I went back 5/6 years in my career.

Cons-Worst management ever seen in my career. People were completely careless about the quality of the software being delivered
-Worst ever procedures and processes. The tools used were obsolete and cumbersome. The processes were horrendously inefficient and time-consuming.
-NO enthusiasm in the team.
-No willingness to improve in any aspect. Although management was told how to change processes and procedures, they did not care at all.
.......

Advice to Senior Management- Put more passion on your job otherwise do something else and stop wasting peoples time

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Citi UK Technology Infrastructure - Dreadful

Technical Specialist (Current Employee)
London, England (UK)

I have been working at Citi full-time for more than 5 years

ProsOnly reason is exposure to Enterprise technology.

ConsTerrible performance appraisal system - jobs for the boys
Appalling Managers (some) who would be sacked anywhere else are left to run teams into the ground.
Revolting facilities in Lewisham for technology staff (due to move back to Canary Wharf in fairness.
Little or no reward or recognition for hard work unless you are an A class self-promoter prepared to stab your colleagues in the back.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the old school dinosaurs that are ruining your organisation.
