IBD in UK. Great experiences with individual people, lots of very smart, driven employees. But bureaucratic..

Director (Former Employee) London, England (UK)

ProsTruly global organisation with networks anywhere you could imagine doing business. Compared to other monoline investment banks the breadth of product offerings helps differentiate Citi. Lots of very smart, driven people which makes it a fulfilling place to work.

ConsVery bureaucratic organisation. I'm sure other large investment banks aren't dis-similar in this regard, the key difference being when you need to cut through the red tape to get something done for a client at Citi you aren't able to- which I don't think is the case at GS, JPM, etc.

Love the place. A pity about the politics.

    Managing Director (ICG) (Former Employee)

ProsThe smart people (and lifetime friendships), the business buzz, the blue chip client franchise, the well-resourced infrastructure (esp from the outside looking in), the opportunities to experience and grow as a professional.

ConsThe size, and the dysfunctional that is a consequence. You can be rated high-potential one year, and be made redundant the next if you happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at your gender diversity stats, and the number of hi-pos you are losing, voluntarily or involuntarily. Great respect for Corbat, but I wonder if he's really got his eye on the talent drain. The company is managing by numbers and not by focusing on the lifeblood of its business -- its people!

Lots of opportunities but very political and bureaucratic the higher up you go.

Director, Risk Management (Current Employee) London, England (UK)

ProsHuge global company with opportunities in every major country and multiple business lines.

ConsDepending on business, long hours are expected. Budget has been tight impacting ability to innovate/automate. Gap is closing on pay compared to other firms.

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement career management to help guide employees through intra-departmental transitions (specifically back/middle office jobs).

Great work life balance but poor bonuses

Senior Auditor (Former Employee) London, England (UK)

ProsGreat work life balance, long hours are not the norm. Decent amount of holidays for a U S employer. Good flex benefits.

ConsBonuses not very good - salary reviews on internal promotion are not great. Sometimes feels US employees get more benefits and opportunities than elsewhere in the company.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
