Great technology, good place to work, but…

Territory Manager (Current Employee)
Fort Lauderdale, FL

I have been working at Citrix Systems full-time

ProsOverall good culture, team members go out of their way to help a newbie out and get the lay of the land. Managers try to keep a high energy on the sales floor, as well as plan events and outings every so often for team building.

Great benefit packages, employee stock purchase plan, 401k, etc.

ConsHQ is very political. How well you get along with management is influential in your ability to gain access to additional training/growth opportunities.
Although the technology is great, the inside sales team rarely has the opportunity to take advantage of the work-life balance that Citrix genuinely sells to customers through the solutions.

Great work life balance and huge growth opportunities.

Senior Technical Support Engineer (Current Employee)
Fort Lauderdale, FL

I have been working at Citrix Systems full-time for more than a year

ProsThey really care about you and your work life balance. Everyone here is extremely helpful and truly act as a team. I have never seen anyone here that is not willing to take the time to help another engineer.

The growth potential is endless. I started in support 2.5 years ago and have seen any engineer with any drive and motivation to be able to move into whatever position they chose. We have had Engineers move into escalation, test, Sales Engineer, TRM and management in just a matter of a couple of years. The sky is the limit if you have the drive to put in the work to get to where you need to be technically.

ConsIt is such a large company that change and promotions do take some time because of the entire line of managers that have to approve the change. This is expected with any company this large though.

Been really good to me

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Santa Barbara, CA

I have been working at Citrix Systems full-time for more than 5 years

ProsI started as an inside sales rep and moved up through outside sales into management. The company has been very good to me and I have learned a TON! Truly the best company that I have worked for.
Great pay (if you get to 100% of plan)
Great work-life balance
Great development

ConsGoing through transition right now with new EVP of SaaS division so there is some uncertainty
Quota goal is difficult to attain for some
Some products, although very good, are a little dated

Advice to Senior ManagementStay the course that you are on with the changes in place
Allow for more remote workers in sales

Great Company for College Grads!

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Santa Clara, CA

I have been working at Citrix Systems full-time for more than a year

ProsI joined Citrix as a Software Test Engineer when I finished my BS degree, and I've been working at Citrix for almost 2 years. I've had the opportunity to work on several different projects within various product lines. I work with very smart, focused people and have learned a lot from them, but they have learned from me too, and I've seen some of my ideas become reality. I appreciate that they hire young people and respect their opinions. Cloud networking and virtualization is a great vertical, and the company is growing and has a bright future.

ConsYou will work hard! The motto around here is "Work Hard. Play Hard." You will work long hours to complete projects, but you can also take a break and play ping-pong with a co-worker.

ProsBeing in a Global company, this is a perfect place for foreigner people to be with. Great people, decent benefices. There is a Cafe place in the site, free bagels every Wednesday, SaaS happy hours once in a month.

ConsNot seem to see much opportunities to grow

On a slow, slow decline... Not the company it once was!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Citrix Systems full-time for more than 8 years

ProsIf I was to list out the 'pros' of Citrix, they would be:
- Work/Life Balance
- Work from anywhere mantra
- Interesting work
- Decent benefits and compensation

End of day, Citrix is a great company to work for but there are definitely growing pains!

ConsThe biggest issues I have with Citrix are:
- Lack of promotion from within
- Lack of career opportunity
- The 'old boys' club prevents any new thinking from happening at Citrix
- The only opportunity is in Santa Clara and not really anywhere else
- The 'middle management' makes all the decisions without leveraging the talent below them
- It is very hard to get fired at Citrix (a pro to some degree)

Citrix is a very political culture and 'who you know' will get you promoted. Promotions do not occur based on merit very often and when they do, they are usually via circumstance or right place, right time. The company is very focused on growing one location (Santa Clara) when they have a lot of talent across the world. The funny thing, the retention rate is an issue in Santa Clara and frankly they would be better served hiring talent who is vested in their other core offices (Raleigh, Fort Lauderdale, Boston (Bedford). The end of the day, Citrix is a great company but they need to start looking at the grunt workers and listen.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to Citrix would be very simple:
- Offer up career paths that are either management or an alternative (like a technical career path for a PM or Engineer)
- Listen to the people in the trenches... sometimes the VPs, Architects and Directors do not have all the answers.
- Listen to your customers.
- Stop worrying about pay versus title and worry about hiring the right people for the job and based on their experience, their title should be 'Y'.

End of day, Citrix in my opinion is going through growing pains and then need to trim some fat , tone up their core and listen to their gut. There are a lot of talented people in the company and location should not matter.
