A shell of what it once was, ShareFile is on the decline

I worked at Citrix Systems full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

You can make more money cold calling here than anywhere else. Free food, cafeteria and gym, new building is AMAZING. Great location in Raleigh. Parties are amazing, at least one happy hour a month (open bar tab). You learn a lot very quickly.

    Cons

With all the positives of Citrix, there are just too many negatives. Most of the position is based on luck, which wouldn't be a huge negative if you weren't one bad month away from being terminated at all times. Have you exceeded your goal by 200% for 3 quarters in a row? Miss goal your monthly goal twice and you are gone. It didn't use to be this way, but they became a victim of their own success. Grew too fast, didn't have a clear sense of their identity.

Most of the managers you interact with are great people, ShareFile is adamant about only hiring managers from within so they understand your position and have already had success. But this cuts back because they tend to be young, irresponsible and mostly clueless. The VP of Sales is an amazing dude, and his energy is addictive. He created an incredible sales engine that is built upon respectable values.

Unbeknownst to him, the managers on the floor rarely uphold these values and very frequently ignore them. Favoritism is often given to the worst individuals. I could go on forever. This is such a promising position in theory, but up and on the ground, it is ugly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be sure to the sales team core values. Don't give special treatment to select employees (LQT), this creates a ton of resent on the team. Need to force someone to change verticals? Fine, but don't terminate them because they have to spend half the month retraining and rebuilding a pipeline. You are losing a ton of talent because you treat employees as canon fodder during resource allocation.

    Pros

Work life is great and opportunities for being a part of innovation and industry leadership initiatives are in abundance.

    Cons

This company has no loyalty to its employees. Watch your back about every 5 years.

    Pros

Great people, great product, great pay and benefits

    Cons

Citrix needs to get back its execution mojo. Although products are superior we are losing market share to competitors. A lot of the issues are due to a subculture of middle management protecting its turf and not doing what is best for the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on execution and weed out individuals and layers that do not focus on the greater Citrix good.

    Pros

Good compensation, much to learn. Depending on your manager, you have the ability to move up, opportunities to develop yourself and flexibility to work from anywhere.

    Cons

Unfortunately, some bad apples are stifling. Sad to see those are permitted to thrive now. Company has exploded and not been able to properly handle the growth as key leadership has gone downhill. Over 20 mil for a new office with a living garden and then layoffs a few month later? Definitely all about the numbers now, especially since the flaws have been exposed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You trimmed the wrong fat. Reward loyalty and listen to your employees. Treat them with respect and rid yourself of arrogant leadership only looking to beef up their bank account and LinkedIn profile. Stop outsourcing. Quality over quantity, your customers are paying attention and your competitors are licking their chops.

    Pros

Still a core value, many great people still there. I believe it is not too late if?? Work-life balance can still be found.

    Cons

lack of direction, massive change in "Citrite" culture and not for the better. Loss of "identity" middle management does not embrace nor understand what got Citrix to be great. I truly hope it can be fixed, not sure it can, but sure hope.
Wondering about MarkT, he is not the same

    I really miss it.....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember who brought you to the dance.... That product is head and shoulders above anything else in the market space. Understand who and what you are and make the most of it as you did for 20 years, the last 5 have been drifting. Just hope it is not too late

I have been working at Citrix Systems

    Pros

Citrix is flexible and has good benefits. It has continually remade itself to stay relevant.

    Cons

Very political with the various BU's thinking only of their own revenue. Hard to get past political and social "boys club" mentality. Current upper management turnover and lack of strategy causing lower morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Exec levels must get more in touch with their employees. Continue to create the great culture that Citrix was known for as this is disappearing quickly.

    I worked at Citrix Systems

    Pros

Good opportunities to move around to differing locations
Remote work, for some departments, is a strong possibility

    Cons

Culture is shifting to a large company mindset and management is losing focus on customer satisfaction and employee development
Strong mentality of having to be part of the clique for true growth opportunities
Pace of growth due to acquisitions in support of financial goals is causing reductions in profit margins that have a serious trickle down impact inside the organization

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Executive leadership, MarkT and his directs, do a great job of spinning the culture of Citrix and the "why" behind what they do. Unfortunately this messaging is not consistent with leaders in the services organization who are doing more to drive a culture that is completely counter to any vision Mark is portraying than anything I have ever seen in the past. I believe it is time to review who is running the services ship and make a change.
