A great place to work for problem solving and challenging yourself

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCityGrid had a rough time in 2012 and 2013. New products didn't launch or time or have as big of impact as expected. Trying to win both SMBs and Consumers was not working and we were trying to do it all. Since the company was restructured in June 2013 we are a small, motivated bunch. Teams work well with one another, it's easy to figure who is responsible for what, decisions are made quickly, there is a focus on data-driven decision making and A/B testing and my favorite - individuals are empowered to make a difference. Whether suggesting a new technology to use and why, suggesting product changes or changes to processes. People listing and I feel both heard and valued.

ConsThere are fewer senior team members in specific roles that I can learn from. From a technical perspective, some things are done quickly but others can take a whole because the system has so many components.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake the plunge and try out new and riskier products that have real benefit to someone - rather than just focusing on the bottom line.

No job is perfect...this one is close.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) West Hollywood, CA

ProsGreat people, good culture. I agree there are some politics that get played, but overall I have learned a lot professionaly, and gained a ton of valuable experience. If you know how to pick your battles, and make friends, you can do very well here. Pay is very fair in my opinion (some places may be higher, but then the culture might not be as fun.) The building is cool, and if you prove yourself valuable, they can be very flexible with you. I love working here.

ConsThere has been a merry-go-round of doing the right thing and taking care of our customers (and our salespeople) and then suddenly a focus on high profits over all else. Then of course morale (and sales) plummet as we see cancelation rates rise. And then we go back to doing the right thing again...until the cycle resets. We need to find a fair middle ground and not keep getting greedy. There is cause and effect here, people!!! Basically---we alternate between being a fabulous place to work, and a terrible one. Stick around long enough and you'll see it averages out. though it has the POTENTIAL to be great....hence why i'm still here.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at historical performance of the product before you go adjusting things... New managment comes in and doesnt seem to have learned anything from the past mistakes of others.

    Great Place to work!

Campaign Manager (Former Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsI had a fantastic experience working here. Management was great & they were always willing to offer additional training & were very open to employee suggestions and feedback.

ConsSome of the internal systems go down periodically, but that happens at all companies. Other than that, there really aren't cons to working here.

    Stimulating, challenging, fun, rewarding

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) West Hollywood, CA

ProsEveryone's smart. And nice. Beautiful building with insane views. Very competitive local search platform. Managers who support and listen. I was really please with how READY everyone was for me from day 1, and how I've consistently had all the resources I need to be successful, while still maintaining a comfortable autonomy.

ConsI'm happy to report that so far no downsides! The location can be a little tricky to access, but that of course depends on where you're coming from.

Advice to Senior ManagementRemain mindful of the big-picture / career path for each member of your team. Make sure channels of communication are clear and open, especially inter-departmentally.

Ability to work with Smart, Kind, Fun, Unique, Driven, Educated and Hard Working people every day!

Manager (Current Employee) West Hollywood, CA

ProsWe work in an Agile environment where everyone contributes and has a meaningful voice on the team. I love the Friday, "Coffee Talk" with CEO, Jay Herratti's 30 minute sessions. Through these sessions, I've learned so much about other departments in the company by hearing a cross section of cross-functional team members talk about what they're working on. Enjoy working on tough, interesting projects and new challenges and being recognized personally and with my teammates for our contributions.

ConsSince the company is such an open work environment and floor plan, its sometimes difficult to find open huddle rooms where several of us can meet and work out problems on white board space since there aren't too many meeting rooms. The days go quickly so I often wish more more time.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo new advice to give here since when I've approached my leader and executives with ideas and thoughts, they have given me guidance and offered feedback and implemented change when it was warrented.
I don't understand the negative Glassdoor reviews as they seem false and either written by disgruntled former employees who may have been let go due to not being able to perform to the performance standards or simply falsely written by someone as a way to try to get CityGrid to advertise into thinking that the false reviews will be removed?

Fast paced ad network who cares about us as employees

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) West Hollywood, CA

ProsChallenging work, paid fairly, great work/ life balance, work with very smart people, fun environment, empowered to do good work by my manager and team. People are nice and get along well with each other. Team is lean so we get to work on a variety of important things.

ConsThe traffic and commute into the West Hollywood, CA headquarters can be challenging depending on traffic and where you commute from.
Annual holiday party is employees only, no signifigant others - Its nice but pretty "no frills".I guess in this economy its pretty good that we still have some type of holiday celebration many friends at other companies can't say the same.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue the regular and informative meetings to headquarter employees to keep us informed of what's going on and how our work stacks up to company priorities.

I've worked here for a few years and am proud and challenged to come to work every day.

Human Resources Employee (Current Employee) West Hollywood, CA

ProsI have an opportunity to work with really nice, smart people who are so passionate about the work we do to become the largest and best content and ad network. The benefits are very comprehensive with lots of choice and options. The work enviromnent is very casual, collaborative and managment supports an open-door environment. Its a fun place to be too. I enjoy our park events with fatburger and the ice cream truck and lots of sports in addition the fun and casual cinco de mayo, halloween, and holiday happy hours and events.

ConsSince we're in 15 different locations around the country its hard to get to know everyone you work with outside of email. Sometimes its just nice talking to someone face to face and getting up from your desk to work and due to the distance if you work in a remote office, that's impossible when other departmetns are at headquarters and such.

Advice to Senior ManagementAppreciate that managment has demonstrated thru events, meetings, emails town halls etc that they really care about employees and our contributions to the culture and company products and strategy. My advice is to keep the lines of communication open.

Smart people in an amazing location with a bright future ahead

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsI love coming to work every day because the majority of people that I work with are smart, energetic, fun, and hungry to succeed. It is a flat organization but there is still significant room for growth and that is very encouraging.

ConsIf you can't adapt to a business that changes when it needs to change, then this isn't the place for you.
