    A great place to work.

    Sales Associate (Current Employee)

ProsFabulous company. Good training procedures. (Usually) easy to deal with customers. Easy to use tills. Fun to dress to sell.

ConsNot great pay. Babies will occasionally hate you. Hoovering between the towers is the worst (all the stuff falls off, every time. Everything moves every few weeks and you look stupid when you take a customer over to the faking it tower and find hello kitty all over it.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Claires is where I got my start

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsManagment makes sure you are trained to at least standard so that you feel comfortable
Atmosphere is always a calm one
Very understanding of person life and time of needed
If more hours are wanted and your store doesnt have them you have the flexibility of working at another store in the area
    Great Weekend hours

ConsWorking alone most of the time
Customers arent very understanding when prices are raised, or signage is not understandable or confusing (comes with any customer service job though)

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement overall is GREAT! And communication with the stores is above par. Only suggestion would be less vague on signage. Customers get confused and then we end up having to give them a deal that really was not apart of the signed deal and we are losing money over it. Paying customers get really mad over fine print..

    Best Retail Job I've had!

    Store Manager (Current Employee)

ProsEar Piercing - being a part of such an important day for so many little girls
    Discount
People - my staff and the upper management are so amazing to work with and work for, I am part of such an amazing team. I have never felt more appreciated at a job than I do working for Claire's. Opportunities - I was given the opportunity to run a top volume store as a brand new store manager (at my previous job I had only ever been an assistant manager) and because of the support I was given and the trust I placed in the company's processes, I was recently named one of the Store Managers of the Year because of my sales results.
Product - Claire's carries such a variety of merchandise, no matter who walks in your store, you can find something for them.
Strong foundation - Claire's is a stable, growing company that I feel is a good place to have a career.

ConsI have read on this site a number of people complaining about the lack of hours given to complete tasks, and while I agree to a point, I also believe that working retail is all about time management. Payroll is always a complaint that field managers have, regardless of where in retail you work. But it is a cost, and cost have to be controlled. So where there are managers saying more hours are needed, there are other managers getting it done with the time they are given. I run a top 100 volume store for Claire's and I would like more payroll, yes. But I understand that I need to get my job done in the hours I am given, so I find ways to make that happen.

Not really a con, but the only thing I can think of.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo field leaders: Hire tough so you can manage easy. Your staff is your resposibility. And your job is sales, so don't complain about your customers, consider difficult customer a challenge and make it your mission to brighten their day. At the end of the day, POG, Markdowns, staffing aside, you are there to make money.

To corporate level leaders: Show appreciation to those who do a good job for you. Cheer them on, and support them when they need it. People appreciate challenges.

    Excitement

    Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee)

ProsThe relationship that you build with your customer everyday. Its nothing like having your same customers coming in asking for your assistance.

ConsYou get a lot of angry people but that with any company esp retail and recovery of the store at night. Not many cons though.

Advice to Senior ManagementSome advice to management is listen to your employee, communication is the key to every successful thing, maybe more store meeting.

Don't know what other people are talking about...

    Third Key (Current Employee)

ProsI love my job. Love kids, love the discount, and love that if you work your butt off there is possibility to grow with the company! :) I'm not sure what other people are talking about... But my management team is VERY supportive and I love working with them. My store manager is GREAT at her job, and she loves what she does. If anyone in our district has any questions, they call our store. She is excellent at doing the schedules, and works around our schedules. The company told us we needed another Sales Associate, and she told them she wouldn't hire another one because it would take too many hours from the 3rd keys and Assistant Manager. The company gives us close to enough hours for all 5 of us. (Small staff... I like being close to my coworkers, but this could be a con depending on who you are) The district manager visits our store often and gives good feedback, not always positive, but she's very good at telling us negative things in a positive manner. All in all, I love this job. (I had a second job at KMart for a little while, comparatively, this job is about a thousand times better... You have to appreciate what you have.) Also, we do have daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly plans, and although sometimes we don't make them, we do get bonuses based on our percentage up from our last year sales. Only management gets the bonuses though. Sorry associates, no bonuses until you get promoted. :(
Also, if anyone has any questions, ALL THE POLICIES ARE IN THAT BLACK BINDER... GO LOOK THEM UP.

ConsWe are expected to greet EVERY customer, no matter if they're homeless or we have all four of our hands full... A lot of work is expected, but as I said above, it IS rewarded. I think (but I'm not positive) there is some inside shrinkage going on in our mall... And I wish we had closer to set schedules, but I love this company so there's not too much to complain about.

Advice to Senior ManagementI'd have to say... The corporate world is lacking in listening to our district manager in a few departments... Our store would like more hours... But they're not giving it to us... And we've been having problems with shipping things... 1-800-CLAIRES told asked us if we were doing it correctly... Wow... Please don't assume we're stupid. We're telling you we don't like this company. Arg.
