I have been working at Clearwire

    Pros

easy job during school, will get you an idea of what a sales job is like.

    Cons

horrible management, spotty service which they'll blame on you if you don't perform well. My supervisor had me write reasons why I wasn't succeeding, and most of it was the fact that they are not gonna be able to compete with comcast or other services, which suck lackluster features. We were forced to sell clear in the computer area of best buy, where not many people were walking around. When I tried to be pro-active and walk around the store like the comcast guys I was told I wasn't allowed by my supervisor and best buy manager. If you so as happen to finally get someone to come near your kiosk they might be super excited, but land in a area which isn't serviced. So how can they blame their reps all the time? Sometimes the numbers are a indication of the companies shortcomings not mine.

    Cons

working here was reminiscent of the movie "Boiler Room". That was the exact mentality at play with this company.

I worked at Clearwire full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are young and no experience in the wireless industry this is the place for you.

    Cons

If you were in the wireless industry and had a brain and worked hard then you were treated like a outcast. This was a poorly manged company that hire mostly former Sprint rejects and gave opportunities to young inexperienced people that obviously run this potential company into the ground. Poor management and widespread frivolous spending early in the years of Clear killed the big start up company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have a brain and middle aged or older then you didn't have a fighting chance. I spent 3 1/2 years in this hell watching and predicting the out come.

I worked at Clearwire full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Decent money for entry level tech support.
Eventually you get to leave. Forever. That is a glorious day.

    Cons

Customers were understandably frustrated with a garbage product.

Forcing technical support to attempt to upsell people that are already saddled with this garbage product.

Product is sold on a bed of lies about no bandwidth restrictions, no speed caps, easy to use; Truth - secret bandwidth restriction that is denied to customers while capping their speed for "heavy" users, pain in the ass to use unless you're amazingly in a spot where the modem can actually receive signal. Hope you like hunting through your entire home to attempt to get signal before we can send a tech out...in a month or more in some markets.

Forcing technical support to do billing.

Escalation calls - good luck finding a floor manager, they didn't staff nearly enough. Then find one that's not already dealing with an escalation call. The floor managers were fine, but the service was so bad it was tough finding them not busy with escalation calls.

The better you were at your job, the more responsibilities you were saddled with, and not given one thin dime for your trouble. Doing well at basic L1? You're put in a special queue where you get to handle repeat callers. Let's toss you in the truck roll and VOIP queues on top of that. Do you get any extra money for all these responsibilities? Nope! You're motivated to be mediocre.

Like your shift? That's great, we're going to have a shift bid now.

    Pros

$10/hr + Commission, Working within Best Buy, Team mentality.

    Cons

Having a supervisor that expects you to take the two worst stores in the district and have them surpassing the sales of the best in the country. Very little training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set realistic goals for your employees and understand that some stores are not as profitable as others.

    Pros

Pay is OK. High turnover among executives means that if you have a manager you don't care for, he probably will be gone in 3 months. The bad news is, someone just like him may take his place!

    Cons

Very aggressive, cut-throat culture. Lots of one-ups-manship. Part of the problem is that they favor very young executives- one C-level executive after another for years was too inexperienced, which made them insecure, and sometimes a bit of a terror to work with. Their turnover is huge - lots of people fired after just a few months because someone didn't like them. This is fact, not opinion, as turnover is measurable. Part of the issue is the founders - a group of very aggressive people who were GREAT at raising capital and buying up spectrum, but not at creating corporate cultures that last. "Cutthroat" and "Clearwire" each have nine letters in them. Just sayin'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell to Sprint, or another major telco. Seriously. It's been six years and if you haven't built a healthly corporate culture by now, why should anyone believe it will happen next year? Why not sell to a company that has a workable culture - Clearwire does not. You have some great spectrum assets from the early days and that's worth something. You can monetize that. But run a business with that corporate culture? Why do you even bother?

    Pros

good money and benefits, some good people work there

    Cons

job security, the company will find an excuse to fire you before laying others off to avoid paying a severance package.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

most managers are good, top company officials need to learn how to make a profitable business model instead of relying on borrowing money from other companies in order to appear profitable to investors.
