    I worked at Clearwire

    Pros

Medical benefits were good. Nice office in Kirkland right off Lake Washington.

    Cons

Where do I start? Working 60 hours a week. Lack of good sales managers. I had 4 managers in the time I was there. Ethics are out the window as far as sales go. We were told to stretch the truth when it came to making a sale. Unhappy, burned out sales reps. Daily meetings and nightly reports are mandatory. Turnover was the highest of any company I have ever worked for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a week and see how the sales staff is managed. Are all the reports, daily meetings and Sunday calenders needed? WiMax is going to be great but take care of your people and build good morale that is needed. I have never worked at a company with so many unhappy employees.

Former Employee - Support. in Kirkland, WA

    I worked at Clearwire

    Pros

None, they oversubscribe their transmission towers and throttle your internet access. If they found out who ratted them out they would simply change their policy and say, "no we do not throttle." They won't tell anyone what the thresholds are so they can charge you more and give you less service. Forget about cancelling your subscription, they will get you to sign a 2 yr contract. When you want out, they force you to pay a $200 ETF.

If you stick with them they won't tell you your subscription is up and roll you over to a new 2yr contract. If you miss your chance to get out then you will be charged the $200 ETF (early termination fee).

If you do cancel in time, their bookeeping is so bad they will continue to charge your account, many times no refund.

They tell their CSR's to never give a refund and do not let a client leave.

    Cons

    Overworked. ie Unwritten mandatory overtime.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest about the company's situation.

I worked at Clearwire full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The company is interested in people of different backgrounds who can contribute fresh ideas to their sales/marketing teams.

    Cons

Where do I begin? The hours? The crappy product? The horrible management? The sabotage? Perhaps it was my area in the Carolinas. Perhaps it was my awful manager. Perhaps it was the feeling that nothing I did would help sales. Perhaps it was the crowds of angry customers. Perhaps it was the endless hours that I spent working when I should have been working a regular 40-50 hour week. Perhaps it was the feeling that all of the blame for our failing market was being shifted over to me. Perhaps it was all of these things. But perhaps it was the lack of honesty that was utilized with the customers. That might have been the biggest con that I had with Clearwire.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that you know what's going on in each market. Make sure that you really know the people who are heading these markets. The people on conference calls look, sound and act completely different in person. And they make it very hard to express any type of dissatisfaction or concern.

I have been working at Clearwire full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Being here for so long, I can pretty much set my own schedule and take off whenever I please.

    Cons

    - Super fast internet? if you think 4 mbps is fast then by all means try this service out.
-$50 A MONTH! Too expensive. You can get Time Warner for half the price at 5x the speed.
    - Pay was decent before, but after Clearwire sold its retail services to a 3rd party company,
    everything went to crap.
    - Customer service is outsourced to the phillipines. Absolutely awful. I hear horror stories of people talking to them for hours on end with a problem that could be fixed in 1 minute locally. Common sense people.
    - 401k? Paid Vacation? Sick Leave? Homeboy please they dont give you anything.
    - The entire day is spent on damage control from the crap customer service and crap service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop concentrating so much on new activations and focus on your existing customers. These are the people that keeps your business alive!

I have been working at Clearwire full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Compensation and Benefits...if you're around long enough to be able to benefit from them.

    Cons

People with knowledge are walked out the door and management left in the hands of people that couldn't get themselves out of a paper box has left Clear with a company that eliminates positions every 6 months. Employees with service over 12 months are rare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop playing politics and look who's doing the real work. You state you want to improve work life balance and then eliminate positions increasing the weekly workload from 40-50 hours to 70.

    Pros

Benefits are ok and sad but that's it.

    Cons

If you hire in as a MSR that will be as good as it gets very few grow in the industry. The only people promoted is with the Good OLE Boy system! Inexperience, non dedicated employee's get promoted. The job changed continuesly and the door was a revolving door. I am currently detoxing from the 3+ years I was with Clear/Clearwire and glad I got to leave with a severance package while there is still money to be had!! The only thing consistant with this company is the inconsistanty! Look at the reviews on this site and that will be the only thing consistant with the company on the way it is run.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When I interviewed for a position before I was laid off the management didn't look at my past performance on the 222 tracker and trainings overall %. They choose a canidate in their local office with less deidcation and experience. (see how far that will get you) Also, many times as a internal canidate you are not even given the courtesy of a interview!

I have been working at Clearwire

    Pros

You have a decent amount of autonomy to do the things you need to do in order to drive your business. They have a solid IT system and there are reports available that will help you know where you stand (this is also a negative as the metric du jure will drive your life.

    Cons

There are really too many to list but here are a few.
You will sell a middling product at an OK price. Wireless is all about having a good network and Clearwire's networks are ALL terrible. They just don't have the money to get it right. Forget about getting any decision making power that will help a customer actually solve a problem.
You will be expected to work Saturday, Sunday, Holidays....whenever in order to hit your number.
    Forget your personal life.
You'll be expected to report numbers multiple times per day...even though anyone in the company can look this up at any time of day or night.
In any given month your commissions will not be close to what you expected. Chargebacks will eat it up.
If you're in sales you will report to someone who has no leadership qualities or experience other than the ability to survive by driving their people into the ground.
There is absolutely no future here. This company is dead....it just hasn't fallen over yet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's too late for advice and even if any were offered the level of hubris in this company would preclude anyone actually listening.

    I worked at Clearwire

    Pros

Great pay and benefits. Good product.

    Cons

Micromanagement is taken to a whole new level of insane. Management basically wants to know where you are, what you are doing, what your sales numbers are and why they aren't higher (even if you are above quota) at ALL TIMES, at all hours of the day, every day -- including your so-called "days off." In terms of quota, don't believe the first number they give you -- they will just up it once you either hit it or it looks like you will. ZERO work-life balance -- they truly do not care and will tell you so. No matter how hard you work, how much you sacrifice your personal life or how many times you exceed your hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly goals (yes, they check that often and sometimes down to the minute -- no exaggeration), you will constantly be worried you will be fired. Why? Because they threaten you that much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please read the "Cons" section of this review. Fire the boys club you have -- they only listen to and promote the biggest "yes men" they can find. This leads to your best people leaving as soon as possible and valuable, solid ideas aren't even voiced out of fear. That is a recipe for failure.

    Pros

The opportunity to take on a broad array of responsibilities and (hopefully) develop the requisite skills. This is a benefit is a byproduct of the fact that the company is understaffed.

    Cons

    Poor compensation.
The company will load you with work without mercy.
Senior management does not seem competent to provide the necessary resources to carry out job duties professionally.
Clearwire has outsourced its entire Operations team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is not interested in listening to advice- one gets the impression that what they're really interested in is selling the company, not building a viable enterprise. Which is why they've jettisoned the entire Operations team, while they're hanging on to their spectrum for dear life. They're desperate to be bought. They would have done better if they had acted professionally.
