    Club One is really fun

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    San Jose, CA

ProsPositive work environment and fun staff. Management are approachable. Nice clubs and safety is taken very seriously. This company has a very skilled HR department and labor laws and considerations are taken very seriously. There are opportunities to advance for employees that are eager to learn and apply themselves. This company allows you to think outside of the box and come up with great ideas. Some of the best management skills I learned were gained while being employed with Club One. Club One is very flexible with school and family schedules. They believe that if you are happy in your personal life, you will be happy at work. This can be the most valuable part of working with Club One, because many other companies do not care.

ConsLow pay for employees and no raises, unless you promote. There is a strong disconnect with the corporate office and club level. Corporate often creates rules/promotions that just don't work on the club level. Employees also are hardly ever given recognition for hard work and/or achievements. Besides health benefits for full time employees, there are no other perks or incentives offered.

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize your employees. Corporate: spend more time at the clubs to find out what really works and what doesn't for each demographic.

One of the better health clubs to work for. But missing some internal structure.

    Personal Trainer (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsNot heavy on nasty sales pressure for the personal trainers, which is a huge Pro. Solid company statement and solid vision. Good CEOs and tasteful facility design (I'm speaking for the commercial side of things).

ConsHard to move around withing the company for some strange reason. Hard to be notice and appreciated in certain ways. Pay will never be exceptionally great in this industry and Club One is no exception.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere are some great people in Club One...please don't forget about them! Sometimes there can be a big divide between the daily front line employees and the management, which is unfortunate for all involved.

    Mixed Experience

    Service Desk Representative (Former Employee)
    San Jose, CA

ProsGreat people for the most part
    Members are great
    Looks good on resume
    Lots of networking opportunity

ConsCorporate is unprofessional and out of touch
    Pay
Go from bored out of your mind to crazy busy
High turnover because people get burnt out

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should understand what goes into working the front desk and respect the position.
Understand that the pay you are currently offering is not going to attract the people with the capacity to do the job functions required.

Club One is a fun place to work; the staff is friendly and the fitness team is energetic and knowledgeable.

    Certified Personal Trainer (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsNice facilities, satisfactory benefits, friendly staff, flexible hours.

Consthey don't help the employees grow with the company, i.e. promotions, new opportunities, etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementInstead of looking on Craigslist for new employment, how about promoting internally. There's an idea.

Club One has given me suport as I try and reach my life long goals with great co-workers and lively enviroment.

    Service Desk Representative (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsComplimentary membership to all Club One locations in Bay Area, great networking as you met new people everday, discounts on health insurrances.

ConsSalary is not the best but neither is the economy. Deal with numerous complaints from dissatisfied members on a daily basis, not much recognition from the management on a corporate level.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease give recognition to the service desk team once in a while. We tend to get the short end of the stick and got a lot of grief with no reward.

    Good Job for College Student

    Front Desk (Former Employee)

ProsFriendly co-workers and friendly members. Hours are flexible for college students' schedules.

ConsPay is ok. Front desk staff have little opportunities for career development.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe sure to engage in all your employees, especially the front line staff such as housekeeping and reception.
