New York, NY

Current Employee – been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time for more than a year

ProsJob security
Onsite opportunities
If you are out of one project due to low performance you will easily get new project - no firing
You are safe even if you are low skilled

ConsVery less pay as compared to market standards
Green Card process now taking long time , forcing employees to leave USA, read PERM/I140 reviews on trakitt.com
Unprofessional middle management - you feel embarrassed when they speak with client ( Dont know how to talk properly)
No promotion or salary hike at onsite
Performance managemet a joke - Just filling it for the sake of audits (CMMI Level maintance)
Rude HR - Consider employees slaves as they know people on L1/H1 wont leave them
Work late hours to handle offshore resources - Get calls at nights which managers force employees to take - otherwise you face actions

Advice to Senior Management1. When you ask for promotions you get answer that there are people waiting in line in front of you - Is this a govt organisation where donky and a horse is considered same ?- come on give promotion based on pure performance
2. Respect resources who are working day and night at onsite to run project. They are the assets. Dont let them eaten by greedy clients and you keep showing revenues.

Current Employee – been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time

ProsOpportunity to self learn and apply your knowledge in client projects.
Some level of freedom to make decisions without too much upper management interference.

ConsStopped valuing experience / knowledge of their employees.
Do not pay well. Charge customers high bill rates but don't pass that down to their emps.
Completely clueless middle and upper management.
Horrible appraisal process. Growth is stagnant unless you know some one or are a pure people manager with zero delivery responsibilities.
Do not value technical skills.
Once you reach a certain level, you are expected to stop doing technical work. This is a recipe for disaster.
High attrition rate (of good resources) due to above factors.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart valuing your employee's more and reduce the inefficient management tier in the organization.
Pass more of what you make from the client for a position to the employee serving that position; adjust salary levels based on the role a employee plays at a client location instead of looking at ones title.

Current Employee – been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time for more than a year

Pros1. nothing to say
2. Highly dissatisfied- as they never gave an update while recruiting or during first year that perm filing will be delayed .

Cons1. They promise GC after 1 year while recruiting and will not file your GC and screw your career and life
2. For the first year after joining, there wont be any updates on GC process from CTS
3. After 1st year when you apply for GC, they say process is being redesigned( redesign has been happening for 1+ years now). They will not give any update on when they will file Perm and which category and all.
4. Worst thing is after 1 year of working , you will be in 6th year of H1 and you cant find another Full time employer willing to sponsor GC

Advice to Senior Managementdon't recruit laterals promising GC , screw theircareer and life

Phoenix, AZ

Former Employee – worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time for more than a year

ProsThey had a position at an excellent client location. I really enjoyed my client boss and the respect shown to me.

ConsLack of communication, low pay, no opportunity for advancement unless I wanted to move, lack integrity, required training on my personal time. Wouldn't pay vacation time I earned.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect your employees. Managers should interact with those on their teams besides at year end reviews. Pay vacation time to employees, or don't offer the incentive. Don't rely on email as the only means of communication.

Former Employee – worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time for less than a year

ProsCompensation not bad. Bonuses are good, but unreliable and not directly related to your own contribution. Some really great people among the mass of junior workers and Indian-descent men who have been promoted way beyond their ability.

ConsI was hired as an AVP to develop a business. Budget cut immediately. Wanted tier-1 thinking and leadership, but with no investment.

Ended up reporting to a young man in India who literally pulled all of my team away from me without telling me (or them). I was told on my exit that 70% of non-Indian descent people are gone within 12-months. Confirmed that my SVP had cut ALL the white people from his organization. Not worth the law suit. I found another senior job (outside the company) within a couple of weeks.

If you think you are going to have a senior role in this company, think again. There are many many examples of people who've been told one thing and then faced another reality. They want tier-1 people to take their ideas, and then cut them.

Finally, I was "released" with 2-days notice. Yes, really... they fired an AVP with 2-days notice.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe CEO message is sound. The senior execs are hurting your execution. Your (illegal) treatment of outsiders is hurting your ability to learn and grow (beyond just hiring 30% more people per year). Your 2015 vision is decent, but your lack of investment will break your ability to execute beyond the marketing story.

Former Employee – worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time for more than 7 years

ProsGood opportunities to work with Fortune 500 clients that add weight to your resume over time.

Cons- Personal growth is a flat line unless you suck up to, or piggyback on a manager who happens to be on his way up the ladder.
- True hard work is never rewarded. The performance appraisal system is a joke. The rewards and recognitions that are actually handed out are always rigged and are an eyewash.
- Stingy as hell. Salaries are way below industry averages and never grow unless you manage to get promoted. If you're relocating overseas or traveling, you'll be made to share hotel rooms/ cab rides/ anything else that the company is paying for, with others.
- Zero work-life balance. You're expected to slog away as much as your project requires you to.
- I never felt valued as an employee or even a human being for that matter. Almost all my managers on the client's side cared about me, mentored and encouraged me more than any Cognizant manager ever did.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop treating your employees like billing rates, and make them feel valued as people first. That would be a good place to start.

ProsSince a USA company, better for greencard processing. easy for visa stamping. top management has good contact with government. Horizontal and Vertical orientation has less complexity compared to other companies.

ConsMost of the projects have unnecessary work pressure. No work-life balance. Some managers have no soft-skills as well technical skills. Less opportunity for growth in Horizontals, need to report to multiple managers.
