    Pros

Not a single good thing found compared to CSC, ORACLE, GE and Other US companies where I worked, led and managed the products and services.

    Cons

    1. Dominated by south indian tamils especially in the leadership role, do not let any other language person, caste person to enter.
    2. No creative thinking, Not a good place for one who has top 3 MBA graduate with secured 15 US patents and built 100+ million dollar revenue.
    3. Quality of the Leadership team and internal operational efficiency is simply way below the standard.
    4. Casteism, Language exists. Top Management and Senior do not have any leadership abilities, it is a cowardship.
    5. You will report to someone who is way below your capability, Cognizant looks at immediate placement to the client, not really focus on candidate's complete potential.

    Advice to Management

DSouza : Please make surprise visit to field, watch out your own surrounding leadership team full of Tamil Brahmins and your own circle of Carnegie. Shame on you for not building diversity. Organization Culture is horrible. No creative thinking, Manipulation and some corruption prevail in your organization. Glad to provide the names of the people, please take legal disciplinary action with senior and top management.

    Pros

While working in India, visa initiation is the only advantage
While working in USA, your dependent's (back in India)health insurance coverage is taken care

    Cons

India: Low pay compared to other companies.
It sounds like a crime to the managers if we ask for compensatory off for supporting over a weekend
If you come to office at 9am and leave at 6pm, they feel you are not flexible and that you dont work.
If you come to office at 11am and leave at 8pm, they feel that you are the most hardworking person in the project.
There was a time when i spent around 20 additional days over the weekends continuously and i was not given a single day compensatory off as the compensatory off expires within 2 months and you are not given a chance to take it!!
Some managers are extremely rude, while some are very helpful
you are not given a chance to choose the path in which your career needs to move. If you say that you need to work in some other project, instead of planning to release you,the plan starts to give you a low rating during the appraisal

    US
Dont ever work in this company if you are in US, your work life balance will get spoilt.
Asking for a compensatory off for working on a weekend is a crime.
Managers dont know how to talk respectfully or respect a technical resources ability. Managers make decisions even if they are technically wrong. They over promise and under deliver and if their wrong promises are not delivered, they put the technical resource at spot.

Good rating is given to those who are pending promotion, though they dont work much. Even if you put hard work ,lose sleep etc... they give you a second bucket or third and justify the action by saying that you didnt support other project needs!!

if you ask for a release, you will be given 4th bucket and then that will adversely impact your career.

if you are due promotion , then they would give you first bucket, even if you dont work and justify it by saying that you helped them to create business!!
Twice i have been a victim of this.
Pay is atleast 15 percent less than industry standards.

If your visa is expiring and due to that your license expires, they wont be bothered to initiate a premium filing, and they wont be concerned about the issues you need to face, without being able to drive.
They would be happy for saving 1000 dollars.!

You must be reachable on phone during off work hours, even if there is no emergency.
    7pm, 8pm, 10pm etc

it is expected that you talk to the offshore team, at their morning hours (your 10:30pm) and explain them about the issues. This is needed even after you send a detailed email about the issues.

They sell you to the clients for less money, pay you less and finally dont care about your well being.

If they estimate the project wrongly and then allocate only one resource where 4 resources are needed, they will blame you and give a wrong rating to you, instead of taking blame for the wrong estimation.

The technical resource is always at the wrong end if there is an issue in the project.Manager never ever takes the blame. Managers know only to escalate, they dont take ownership of any thing.

    Advice to Management

Learn to respect the privacy of your resources. We are not just resources, we are human beings who have family and whoever has maintained a good balance between personal and professional life only that person can work efficiently during office hours.
I think we need to move away from being inefficient workaholics to efficient technical experts or efficient managers.

Please learn to share the profits with your workers. Every single year, you would say that the market is down and then give low bonus or low hikes. If every year, you are not making profits then something is wrong, you need to change the way we do business.

    Pros

Cognizant has some things going for it, but if you are a US citizen it should be viewed as a 1 and done (year) place to work. I worked at Cognizant for 2 years. I was fresh out of Grad school and was happy to join Cognizant. For someone with 0 yrs of experience their salaries are good, but their benefits are bad (little PTO, bad 401K plan). The experience Cognizant provided was quite good, but the longer you work there the worse the benefits get; their raises and performance bonus' are abysmal (my raise per paycheck was less than the increase in rent of my apartment due to property tax increases) and they do a terrible job of staying competitive with the market. That being said, depending on the account and project, you can get to work with some very smart people and everyone I met was very helpful and supportive. However it is possible to be thrown onto a project by yourself and completely forgotten about (like myself). Also the amount you have to work is VERY dependent on the client. I rarely had to work over a 40 hr week in my two years, but other people claimed they regularly worked 60-80 hr weeks at different accounts. They do offer informative training programs (most of them online), so if you are looking to learn a new tool or programming language they are good about that. Unfortunately as a new joinee you have 0 choice in the projects you get placed on, so the likelihood you use most of that training is remote. Compounding that problem is the fact that if you are placed on a long term project by yourself, you have virtually no ability to switch to any other projects. The final issue with Cognizant is that the HR policies and promotion cycles just do not make sense. HR as a department might as well not exist, since between hiring and resigning you will never have to interact with anyone in HR (nor do they want you too). For instance when I left, I told my supervisor I was leaving because I had another offer with better compensation and benefits. The actual account manager (the Cognizant guy at the top of the food chain on the account) ended up getting involved, said he didn't want me to leave and promised me a promotion with a raise in 4 months. Other than that his hands were completely tied by corporate policy and he couldn't do anything else. If this is what goes for a counter offer at Cognizant they won't be able to retain their brightest talent. I really felt bad when the manager said this was the best he could offer since sadly vague promises of future benefits do not compare with defined promises of immediate benefits, so I had to leave.

Pros: Friendly supportive co-workers, potential to win the low work account lotto, interesting work, ability to learn new tools, good way to get work experience

    Cons

Advancement is very challenging, potential to lose the low work account lotto, bonus' are atrocious, raises are atrocious, salaries are not competitive, managers that forget employees exist.

    Advice to Management

Change promotion policies and give some power back to the account managers when it comes to negotiating contracts OR completely overhaul the HR department because they aren't involved at any point with anything. Losing your best talent is going to be a real issue for Cognizant going forward and you need to take action now to ensure you are able to keep your brightest people happy. To the Board of Directors, remember these are the good old days, and you all need to take actions that will ensure the good old days stay good
