I have been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There are no fake components in the salary. OK for starter/freshers but not advisable for mid level career seekers.

    Cons

Typical office politics and you'll be lucky only if your manager and peers are genuine. No consideration is ever given to your personal life. All you are looked upon is as money making machine, who is not allowed to carry any humanly aspects of our 'life'. Even if you have leaves accumulated you can't take time off since it's considered as a billing loss.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let employee feel like Human beings, specially those who are at client site and not as someone who has been body shopped for billing and company's profitability.

Current Employee - Senior Manager in London, England (UK)

I have been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Ambitious well funded and recruiting heavily. has a fascinating range of clients across a large number of verticals and is actively looking for more "new logos" to add.
Also has an internal venture capital business looking to invest in clever ideas.
    Ability to work worldwide.

    Cons

Senior managers obsessed by relative rank, often telling more junior members of staff just to get on with things even when valid concerns are raised.
Time serving staff just promoted because they have been around for quite some time, rather than because they have the talent
Poor quality of vertical and sales staff, more concerned with getting the win than securing a deal / project that is deliverable
Highly variable quality of individuals within the company both on an offshore

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some experienced senior managers from outside
Promote a culture of healthy challenge and accept that junior members of staff may have valid concerns to raise
Stop relying on throwing huge numbers of (cheap offshore) resources at projects because a salesperson (see above) has undersold something

    Pros

Some very good people, skills and work ethic

    Cons

Matrix organization lead to different prioritization and concept of delivery, not always aligned leading to different levels of performance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Align matrix organization so that horizontal, verticals, operations and sales work to the same goals and are truly accountable to each other in a transparent manner

    Pros

well integrated with technology, account and sales team

    Cons

career growth extremely sluggish and salaries not in par with experience of consultants

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

focus on promoting people internally rather than hiring people from outside. there are good people who have been stuck up at certain position for last 5 years or so..that's unfair and HR policies needs to be more aligned to motivate people rather than creating dissatisfaction

    Pros

Get to work with great customers.

    Cons

Unless you are a yes-man and suck up to your manager, work all hours of the day, absorb all expenses as they won't get paid back then this is the place your you.....

Relentless focuss on billabilty and misleading the customer are all part of the culture.

I have been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions

    Pros

Good people and lots of work since they will undercut to retain customers. strengths are in software development and testing. consulting and project management skills are very poor.

    Cons

Poor induction programme, bad communication structure and getting information internally is a huge challenge. Team work severely lacking and no drive from management to resolve. processes not well defined and all the traits of a company growing with no clear strategy or sense of community.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

be clear about the long term and short term goals and communicate that effectively to everyone. blogs and junk mails are not the best way to reach out to people. find out why the attrition rate is so high.

Former Employee - Senior Business Analyst in Edinburgh, Scotland (UK)

I worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions

    Pros

If you want to just hang around and do nothing in life, Cognizant is the best place to work. You pretty much have to to do nothing other than turn up at office once in a while. If you're billable then you need to know how to escalate matters and send mails all over the place without having to do anything at all. If you're interested in things like problem solving, consulting or using skills learnt in college then it is an absolute waste of time joining this company.

    Cons

Bureaucratic, lack of respect for talent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to respect talent. and treat them with the respect their work experience and talent deserves. Running after billability and utilisation and trying to make sure everyone is billable will not get you anywhere.
