ProsWork life balance

ConsSalary not competitive
Work tends to get boring
Slow growth, promotions based on every other year regardless of contributions
Performance reviews based on seniority, work enough years and you'll reach the top
Talent retention issues while others just get by doing nothing
IT management are non technical folks making technical decisions

Advice to Senior ManagementHire new employees with strong IT background and get rid of others who do not belong in

GIT (Current Employee)

I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive

ProsDiscount on products.
Work isn't too demanding.
Decent working conditions.
Okay pay.
Stability, they say they don't normally
fire people that have been hired.

ConsWork is very very boring.
There are tons of meetings.
Pay is somewhat less than other positions.
Work may not translate to other jobs.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter training for new employees.
Better functions to bring new members to
the team.
Improve user interface of the systems.

Colgate would be a great company if they actually practiced what they preached

Administrative Assistant (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive

ProsGreat dental insurance
Decent medical insurance (great coverage but high premiums and co-pays)
Convenient location
Company Store
On-site cafeteria
Vacation Policy

ConsNot all employees are treated equally -
management gets all the perks while
support staff gets nothing

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you're going to offer programs like Work Smart then have a policy where every employee is entitled to participate. Not fair that managers can arbitrarily decide on company policy - - be consistent so every employee is treated equally

easy work, good pay, but no growth

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Morristown, NJ

I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive

Pros-good pay
-flexible hours
-they pay for your education
-people do respect each other
-no pressure/stress on the job

Cons-no career growth for people that are just starting out
-company is too conservative
-they have strict rules on people working from home only after a year
-managers aren't too technical
-ideas are welcome but they prefer to stick to their old ways

Advice to Senior Management-take classes and become more technical
-management is full of 1st generation people that have not caught on to the latest technology
-it is OKAY to employ new people
-a good manager is one that is able to do all of the work on the team and knows how much time and effort each task may require
-relying on certain members of the team to figure out "what next???" shows inability to lead a team.

Stable organization with solid learning opportunities in a rigid work environment

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Colgate-Palmolive

ProsStable Company
Recognizable name
Great learning opportunity - you can learn from the best
Intelligent employees
Good benefits, including excellent dental plan and discounted product
Great location in NYC

ConsLong-tenured employees are resistant to change
Constant need to watch your back
Relatively low pay for non-execs
Red tape
Poor work-life balance
Limited promotion opportunities

Advice to Senior ManagementThe general environment needs to become a little more relaxed, which can actually help improve efficiency. Company policies could stand to become a little less rigid.

Great Company to work at - If you are a Baby Boomer...

Senior Engineer (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Colgate-Palmolive

ProsVery successful company with great benefits. Wonderful place to start your career. You get to work closely with some of the most successful companies in the world (Like Wal-Mart)

ConsVery thick glass ceiling that can only be shattered by moving up the chain slowly. Seriously -it takes decades to advance there.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou have groomed a lot of great younger talent. Let them take over much sooner and guide the company to even higher heights.
