Enjoyed a very hands-on six month co-op with Colgate in which I learned and achieved a lot.

I worked at Colgate-Palmolive as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The co-op at Colgate provides training in programs like Crystal Reports, SAP & BW. Interns are given real projects that have a genuine impact on the company and are not made to waste their time on "coffee & donuts" type tasks. The office in Atlanta is a very friendly, helpful, and team-oriented environment. You will feel at home here.

    Cons

Even with six months spent in the co-op there are still some projects that are large enough you cannot see them through to completion. The only other con is that the program starts off quickly... it can be like trying to drink from a fire hose at times, but everyone is patient and helpful so this isn't so bad.

I worked at Colgate-Palmolive as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Great location, great training for learning how plumb and understand corporate thinking, first-class facilities, prestigious company. Lots of pleasant co-workers.

    Cons

Expectation for precision in accounting for project budgets can be a bit lax. A bit much paper shuffling to balance internal departmental balance sheets – after all, it's all in the same company.
There are some cliques and some people who are their favorites don't always pull their weight.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how designers think, just designers strive to learn how you think. Be more open to doing business with new outside creative vendors

I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive

    Pros

Its a very strong global company with a great reputation. Additionally, although sustainability is new to CPG, over the years we have been quite sustainable considering we were meeting cost savings objectives.

    Cons

If you work within Finance or Marketing there is a lot of career growth. If you are in Global Design, there is a glass ceiling almost no one penetrates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be a mentoring and growth program combined where some one is mentored and guided on their career path.

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for learning and growth. Mentoring and growth of employees is a strength of senior management. Company has many opportunities to grow all over the world.

    Cons

Can be an overly formal atmosphere. Lots of presentations to senior management. The overall style is not for the faint of heart. Most people who work in product management are very smart and very demanding.

    Pros

The engineers are very serious about their jobs. They are always busy, either out on the floor or in a meeting, but if you schedule your time well, they will sit down and explain what you need to learn with you.

    Give big responsibility to interns.

    Cons

Morristown location is horrible. The town is dead

    Cons

Good ole boy network - have people who can get away with stuff that is crazy and they are not challenged or fired.

    I worked at Colgate-Palmolive

    Pros

Management recognizes and promotes strong performers; opportunities for growth and advancement in your career; company store is great!

    Cons

Non-management salaries are just OK; workload is not evenly distributed (i.e. some people are out the door at 4:59pm every day, while others constantly work late); there is an unspoken understanding that to progress in the Finance group, you must do an international rotation in a foreign subsidiary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Continue to recognize and promote strong performers;
