I have been working at Community Health Systems

    Pros

The only pro to this place is the staff minus the management.

    Cons

Very poor nurse managers. Overworked. Short staffed. Unsafe high patient to nurse ratio. High turnover. Emplyees are treated with disrespect. No raises in more than three years. Never have supplies that are needed. Always running out of linens. Reusing IV tubing. Its an embarrassment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a new nurse manager. One that has respect for the employees. There would definitely be less turnover. Some nurses are working 6-8 12 hour shifts in a row..unsafe. Keep us in supplies. We should not have to reuse IV tubing. The linens need to be replaced. Every single sheet has holes in it..embarrassing. The towels and washcloths are no better. I know this is a small town hospital but that is no reason to be neglected.

    Pros

None..place to collect a paycheck if you have no other options

    Cons

Read all reviews. Any positive or semi-positive reviews are from part time or contracted employees. Culture of greed pervasive, starting with the top five who are all busy stuffing their pockets before retirement.
Fear is their game. If they can't put their teeth into you, then they'll try to replace you. Valuable, high demand employees leave and not stick around.
Administrators sympathetic to their employees are immediately replaced, regardless of how successful they are.
    Makes Gordon Gecco look tame.

Will trend down in revenue (already is) and more than likely fold or sell most assets in 4 years due to value based purchasing payment by CMS being instituted (get paid for quality of care). More than likely the top 5 will sail into the sunset by then.

DOCS, stay away!! Uniform contracts all designed for maximum control and enslavement. Go ahead, have it reviewed by a lawyer...

I worked at Community Health Systems

    Pros

U may qualify for a company car. Nurses have a great background

    Cons

Poor communication, management gets defensive when questions are asked regarding new process of doing things. which makes me feel as if it's not encouraged to ask questions. Flexibility is no longer as flexible. Office gossip. High turn over in the last year

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be nice
    Listen
Do not accuse nurses or office staff for all that goes wrong

I worked at Community Health Systems

    Pros

I really cant think of a single pro that I can apply to this company other than they have a few, very few, good employees who are always looking for an out.

    Cons

    Poor direction
    Lack of communication
Pathetic excuse for VP's and Directors
    Poor pay
Lowest employee satisfaction of any company I have ever worked for

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start replacing your operational management starting at the top and working down. Invest in proper communication and planning. Employees would like either better pay or a feeling that they actually belong to a company who cares.

I worked at Community Health Systems full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Salary is not too bad

    Cons

Total lack of training and orientation. Total lack of structure

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I begged to be trained in the system properly. Management showed no interest in that. This company needs to be structured correctly and upper management needs to supervise the day to day activities more closely.

The most unethical and morally corrupt organization in Nashville. Avoid at all costs.

I worked at Community Health Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

2 week vacation time and separate sick bank. If you do well at your position they will continuously give you more responsibilities without more pay.

    Cons

Employee turnover is high because there is no potential for promotion. Even if there was, your pay will be at an unacceptable level. Opportunity to advance is slim because departments will hold their "best people" back because there is lack of employees who have been with the company over 3 years.

The pay practices here are evil. Salary is not discussed and position salary ranges are "anonymous." If you are below that pay range, they will not bump you up to the MINIMUM because of internal promotion rules.

The Company runs "lean" so you get insulting annual raise and few tools available to do the job you need to do. All this goes on while the CEO, CFO and other top management fly to horse raises and back and forth to their homes on one of the company jets, EACH WEEKEND.

Patient and "community cares" are myths. It is all about pushing for more profit. We have to do training because of a settlement with the Department of Justice but the e-mail the CEO sent out discussing it did not mention it was due to the lawsuit. He must think the employees are stupid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have a reputation from employees for being so greedy and money grubbing while everyone else eats like a pauper.

You are what's wrong with this country.

I have been working at Community Health Systems

    Pros

Competitive salaries and start up bonuses.

    Cons

After working for sometime at a CHS run hospital I have finally realized Corporate couldn't careless about physicians. We are sadly a disposable, replaceable commodity. Many physicians have come and gone feeling the same. CHS places administration and management on a pedestal! They don't appear to careless about input from physicians. All decisions are made from the top and run down the line to the bottom of the trough (to the physicians). Profit, not patient, physician, or employee satisfaction seem to matter much. Think twice before joining CHS run hospitals. It has been a sad experience for me. Employment contracts are carefully worded to enslave you more. Dont be fooled by the salary or start up bonus!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should be there to serve the physicians needs not treat the physicians with distrust and are disposable.
