I have been working at Computer Sciences Corp full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

CSC has some very talented people who are capable of making a difference in the lives of their clients.

    Cons

Compensation is a disaster - very inconsistent and far below even "average" firms. To significantly overachieve against the lofty targets results in a less than stellar financial reward.
Actions of CEO are short-sighted and driven by a bonus plan which rewards him for an increase in stock price (in this case derived primarily through $1B plus in cost-cutting). His millions in compensation have come on the backs of many of my peers who have lost their jobs in the name of "cost containment".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Serve your clients first, and the value to the shareholders will follow. Take a good look at the employee base and recognize what you have. Talk less...listen more. You may be surprised at the result.

    Pros

An established company with base portfolio of business and contracts to build on.

    Cons

You've "transformed" the company into a house of cards through terminations, right-sizing, matrix work structure, punitive vacation policy and zero pay raises. Everyone is doing the job of three and quickly burning out (HR = human race horses). Job seeker beware AND potential buyer beware...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

May sound good in theory and look good on paper but what will you have in the end?

    Pros

Lower-level management does its best to keep their direct employees afloat. When you work off-site, company lets you work your own schedule.

    Cons

For my office, unless you're a 20-year retired military veteran, there's almost zero chance of promotion up the corporate ladder, let alone at the project/program management level..

CSC is undergoing a major restructuring and has deeply cut into employee benefits and hasseverly reduced employee morale:
-In past years, pay increases barely kept up with inflation when I was already paid 30% less than my associates with similar work experience. This year, there were no pay increase across the board.
-CSC's new vacation policy takes away hours that you earned.
-Even our filtered water machine was removed from our office because the company wasn't going to pay for it. Seriously?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your employees and your employees will take care of you. It's that simple.

I have been working at Computer Sciences Corp full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Many very smart and motivated employees willing to go the extra mile. Work from home flexibility. CSC provided employee discount program for computers, restaurants, etc.

    Cons

The changes over the past couple of years have been devastating to morale across the company. So many good people have left voluntarily or through the many RIFs that most employees have their resume on the street. Quarterly, or shorter term, results trump everything. Most employees were recently forced by their managers to submit for 3 days of PTO, even if they didn't want to because they knew their personal work demands would not allow it, just so the quarter-end corporate balance sheet wouldn't look as bad. That is shameful! Immediately thereafter, the entire PTO carry over policy was also changed for the same reasons. These and many other apparent acts of fiscal desperation have left most departments with a bunker mentality of wondering what's coming next.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop worrying so much about the price of the stock or you will destroy the company.

    Pros

Company provides tools and adequate training to be successful. Communications and feedback have got better over the last 2 years.

    Cons

Company is not an employee friendly environment. They use a bell curve for annual reviews where 40% of the populations MUST be rated below acceptable. My goals and objectives are unattainable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is seen as hostile towards the employee base.

I worked at Computer Sciences Corp full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Many jobs afford you the ability to work from your home office. Office technologies provide the venue for effective virtual collaboration. Company has a long, rich history such as the founders started what is now the computer science field of study. There are many opportunities for careers and advancement.

    Cons

Current company transformation and financial difficulties have led to poor management decisions about handling of employees. Employee morale is low based on the fear of being let go or not having trust in their leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be transparent with your employees about the financial uncertainties. Do your best to listen to your employees, rebuild trust and take steps to improve the overall morale.

I have been working at Computer Sciences Corp full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I have found that the one positive attribute of CSC is that they offer salaries that align with the industry standard.

Because CSC is a global company, its workforce is located in many different places. Thus, each employees' experience will differ. I am speaking from the point of view of the US mid-atlantic market which relies heavily on federal government contracting.

    Cons

    - You get lost in the shuffle because the company is so large. It is impossible to be promoted, recognized or grow with the type of structure and size of the company.
    - As a technologist, CSC is completely not innovative. In fact, they do not encourage a community of innovation and they do not invest in their employees. As a result, many technologists with current or cutting-edge skills have left or are considering leaving to pursue more interesting positions.
    - The benefits are decreasing. Over the past three years that I have been employed with CSC, major benefits were removed or reduced as cost cutting measures (one time CSC 401K contribution at the end of year, health costs increase; penalties if including spouse, mandatory end-of-year shut down where you use your own vacation, no raises in 2014, etc). Of course, a company needs to survive; however, such a severe and rapid reduction in benefits has severely decreased morale.

I worked at Computer Sciences Corp full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    It was a paycheck and a 401k

    Cons

The outsourced model is completely broken, the product lines are in control, there are budget charges that no one can explain and yet the account has to pay for them and they say the Account Exec is in control - what a farce - you will spend your mornings in endless budget reviews (why aren't you making more $) and afternoons explaining why your customer sat isn't higher (remember the additional OI you made me promise just this morning folks?)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop thinking about how to maximize your bonus and think about what you promised the clients when you inked the deal (its good to have a dream)
