I worked at Computershare full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I loved the hours 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, weekends and holidays off. Great benefits Medical, dental, eye, 401K. they seemed to care and wanted us to provide real Customer Service. Learned a lot about stocks. if I did not have to move to Seattle to help out my aging parents would still be there. tried to see if I could transfer no positions in Seattle Washington.

    Cons

Had to come in as a temp and work a year before being hired, did get a dollar raise, but no way to earn extra as in bonuses, or overtime.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember to tell your employees what they did good as well as when they did bad, so they can learn to be better.

    Pros

Great people to work with. The pay was great and it was a very relaxed environment. Job felt very secure because of company financials. Great potential for growth within the local branch and there was great talent to learn from.

    Cons

The headquarter not always in tune with the rest of the branches. We often felt like a side dish to the whole Computershare offering.

I have been working at Computershare full-time

    Pros

This company recognizes and appreciates hard work and dedicated employees. They encourage you to find your own level so to speak and have no problem with you applying for higher paying jobs that open up within the company.

    Cons

There is a tendency to establish workloads at the absolute maximum load you can handle...and sometimes more. While they are good at the things that make up their core business, they are flat out terrible at some of the ancillary employee services. Onboarding process is very weak and you are left to flounder around on your own until your colleagues help you out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR needs to spend more personal one-on-one time with new employees and walk them through the processes. A single phone conference or Go-to-Meeting is not enough. There is no excuse for IT to take so long to get new hires access to application programs. No one should sit around for a week waiting to be able to start working.

I have been working at Computershare full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Working in IT you will be exposed to a lot of the new technologies. Since there is quite a bit of acquisition work and growth is primarily in the US, a lot of new technology is being implemented. Work/Life balance is good here and vacation time is decent.

    Cons

Bonuses...well let's just say you better build it into your salary because apparently they are non-existent...regardless of what HR tells you..or your recruiter...they are just not there. That being said, just build that into your salary and hopefully you'll continue to be a motivated employee year over year. Of course, as a result...people learn cutting edge tech and there's no bonus...so naturally in IT it seems like a revolving door with employees in and out quite often.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value employees and drive up retention rates by offering small bonuses or spot bonuses. Not giving bonuses to employees while month after month management goes out to dinner does not drive up employee morale...and neither does bringing in expats with large expense accounts for positions that could have been filled by great performing local employees.

    Pros

They had an established QA department with great Quality people.
Build Engineers for both the production environment and QA environment.
Architecture Group to direct the efforts of the developers.

    Cons

No room to grow or expand your role. There was a very flat structure with one project manager/personnel manager over 20 developers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Create more opportunities for advancement.

I have been working at Computershare

    Pros

The primary item to keep in mind with regard to Computershare is that it is a young company. The company has only had a significant presence in the U.S. for approximately five to six years. Also, as a result of the companies growth by acquisition strategy senior management have come from various acquisitions and are therefore not a product of a single organization with common approaches and practices. Therefore, each business unit and each division is managed on a de-centralized basis with minimal consistency. This situation has created a vast amount of opportunity for improvement.

    Cons

As a result of being a young company information is at a premium with few organizational wide information systems to leverage for decision making. Therefore, each decision requires significant work and rework of information as business unit management, senior management, and global HQ (in Australia) attempt to make strategic decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on developing management bench strength beyond the current senior management. Model development practices after leading companies despite the cost and effort involved.

I have been working at Computershare full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are some great people here who work hard and really try their best to move the company forward (an uphill battle). Decent career prospects if you work hard and can demonstrate your value. Good benefits to offset lower pay. Laid back culture eg. open plan office, no neckties other than for client meetings.

    Cons

Legions of poor or mediocre performers who seem to survive far too long. A culture of most people not challenging the status quo. Pay is in the low-mid band for most roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Return to the company's roots and start thinking big again. Get rid of the poor performers from entry level all the way up the food chain.
