I worked at Compuware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lovely facility with attached parking structure.

    Cons

Culture of cliques. Senior Management was very remote and fostered a climate of fear. At this point, the company was very unstable.

    Advice to Management

Need to look beyond the "teacher's pets". All employees have value.

I have been working at Compuware full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Free off-street parking, clean, centrally located, with a lot of smart, skilled, creative and likeable people to work with, though they're dwindling.

    Cons

Minimal pay increases, little promotion opportunity, too many meetings, too much administrative paperwork, a lot of unnecessary pressure and artificial deadlines, frequent management shuffling, arbitrary layoffs, zero job security.

    Advice to Management

Management seem to be doing everything they can to maximize short term profitability with a view to reselling the company within two to five years. I don't see anything more they could do to make better progress toward that goal.

    Pros

Great people and wonderful customer base. Collaborative and innovative.

    Cons

Stopped listening to the #1 assests, the customer. Took thier eye off the ball and stopped being innovative. Lost all the good people assets too.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your customers and those that are customer facing.

Compuware (now Dynatrace, as acquired for the 2nd time in 2-3 years) is a sinking ship. Not what it used to be.

    Pros

Many good "low-level" people who make up the company.

    Cons

No bonuses, tiny merit adjustments, high turnover rate, no stability, and rampant lay-offs.

    Advice to Management

Get better business insight rather than blaming the employees who do your footwork for your shortcomings.

I worked at Compuware full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Worked with some of the most brilliant technologists i've ever met. Amazing office located in Downtown Detroit.

    Cons

No focus, no goals, a huge group of people that were hired because they either were friends of a friend or married into the right family with no training. The management team was so irrelevant and out of touch they didn't notice the company crumbling from the top floor in 3 piece suits. The last two years were life boats while hundreds of families and employees had their lives ruined.

    Advice to Management

Stay small, focus and just learn from all of your many many mistakes.

I worked at Compuware full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Application Performance Management Division of the business earned a leadership position in the Gartner Magic Quadrant. Very comprehensive set of APM technologies across Transaction monitoring, end use experience, real user monitoring and synthetic monitoring.

    Cons

Compuware became a portfolio of unrelated businesses, which caused distractions from the legacy mainframe business and the App Perf Mgmt growth business. As is well documented, this lead to the eventual sell-off of the non-core businesses.

    Advice to Management

    Unleash the APM division.

I worked at Compuware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good benefits and company culture.

    Cons

Pockets of myopic management, focused on personal gain at expense of dedicated employees. As with many companies undergoing structural change - lots of opportunity to be burned if in the wrong place at the right time.
