    Pros

Application Performance Management Division of the business earned a leadership position in the Gartner Magic Quadrant. Very comprehensive set of APM technologies across Transaction monitoring, end use experience, real user monitoring and synthetic monitoring.

    Cons

Compuware became a portfolio of unrelated businesses, which caused distractions from the legacy mainframe business and the App Perf Mgmt growth business. As is well documented, this lead to the eventual sell-off of the non-core businesses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Unleash the APM division.

    Pros

    Good benefits and company culture.

    Cons

Pockets of myopic management, focused on personal gain at expense of dedicated employees. As with many companies undergoing structural change - lots of opportunity to be burned if in the wrong place at the right time.

    Pros

I worked with some good people and made some good friends. Salary was about average for my experience level when hired. Benefits were average to above average.

    Cons

Management was difficult to approach and often gave praise and rewards to favorites rather than those who had real accomplishments. Formal training was lacking. Constant layoffs.

I have been working at Compuware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of great people who work throughout the company. Benefits are very good and for the majority of the time work life balance has been great. It is a casual work environment which is nice. The facilities are exceptional and in a cool location with free parking. The company has a solid portfolio of technology behind it.

    Cons

Unfortunately since Peter Karmanos departed from the company in 2013, our CEO Bob Paul has been piecemealing business off to private equity companies. There has been a general atmosphere of anxiety since he took over. Poor leadership by our CEO and Board of Directors has nearly dissolved the company completely. Salary increases at or below inflation unless promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increasing your own long-term incentives while telling your employees to tighten their belts sends a very bad signal to the people who work for you. Be more visible to your employees than a rah-rah email every 6 months. Set realistic expectations to Wall Street vs. targets the company will never meet.

    Pros

Highly dedicated and skilled employees with an honest desire to do the best job possible. Good office facilities including cafeteria, daycare and gym. Competitive compensation.

    Cons

Management keeps its head in the sand with a "bring me no bad news" attitude. Sales forecasting is a joke. The quarterly forecast is based on what management wants to hear rather than reality with less than 10% of forecasted deals at the start of the quarter actually close. Turnover in the sales force is one of the highest in the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time managing the business and less time on cultivating your image.

    Pros

The company and its products has great potential, the pay was good.

    Cons

The company is disarray, if you were not told, you would think Compuware and its MA office was a start up company. Its ok to run a company like a start up, but to run into issues like a start up and everything they do is a band-aid, it says alot of how management is in the company. Its never a planned out long term solution. Constant last minute changes is the culture. Processes are only promised but never put in placed and enforced. Higher ups are more than often playing the blame game or the finger pointing game. Not very encouraging when during hiring process that HR tells you the company gives out "bonuses" then once hired, HR adds fine line..."only director level get bonuses". Management is a joke, instead of encouraging employees to work better and work harder, they tell employees to leave without really asking the employee why they are dissatisfied. More than often, managers will just take the work which they can assign to their own teams to work on, instead point fingers at their own teams and say they are incompetent. And if team members pick up projects, more than often, managers don't know anything about the said picked up project till the project originator asks about the progress.

I have been working at Compuware full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Varied work, decent pay, good vacation policy, software products sold globally.

    Cons

Declining company with very frequent layoffs. The job is in downtown Detroit, a recovering dump, and the commute from anywhere decent is long. No chance of becoming an expert in anything because of frequent management changes of direction. The company future is in spun off businesses, no longer in Detroit. No training other than what you teach yourself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Explain your strategy, products, and future plans to employees before many more of them quit.

I have been working at Compuware full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent benefit package, nice group of caring co-workers.

    Cons

No performance evaluations for 4 years despite escalating to Management, likewise minimal raises. Salary not competitive with industry. Vacation time has restrictions not openly communicated to staff. Poor departmental communication as well as poor Management communication. Constant turnover with Sales staff. Poor training and career development. Can't sell if you don't know the products. No upward mobility. Cliques galore. Good ole boys network. Many needless layers of Management where VP's and Directors have minimal number of direct reports. Lacking in overall strategy to grow the business.

    Pros

Previous executive management had an extensive reach into several corporate organizations for a variety of contract work offerings. Medical and dental are competitive.

    Cons

Interesting work options are drying up. The Business development leads cannot mine enough opportunities to keep the people busy or interested in sticking out the uncertainty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a strategic roadmap for the employees to show them plans for future growth. Engage or hire industry leading experts to help regroup and grow the business.
