The rollercoaster of being in Technology.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsBenefits were among some of the best offered in todays market.

ConsGrowth opportunities are minimal unless you start at an entry-level position or work at Corporate HQ. And in some cases, it's who you know, not what you know.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe new management regime had no clue when it came to retaining the best workforce. Some of the longest tenured employees had more to offer than current management would admit.

    Still evolving

Program Director (Former Employee) Detroit, MI

ProsIt's a good place to work with smart people, interesting work, and an opportunity to have an impact as an individual contributor or part of a team. Company has been improving strategic focus over the last couple of years.

    Good work life balance
    Good amenities at corporate HQ
Ease of mobility if you put in the effort

ConsOffice culture is not centrally managed. Pockets of progressive culture exist, but there is a lot of resistance to changing the status quo.

    Limited compensation increases
    Risk during downsizing initiatives
    Heavy on upper middle management

Advice to Senior ManagementPut additional resources into training, employee development and talent management
    Flatten out organizational hierarchies

The old engine got a new look but still old inside

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsAfter years of merging, product line and business are good in distributed products. work-life balance is really depends on the position, some position are very demanding. Headship is doing a fine job, a lot of politics although it's not a big corp. Now the old engine got a new look but inside it's still old. Family oriented culture is being abandoned but new culture takes time to establish. Good employer if you are in Detroit area.

ConsYour work life will be very much depends on your line manager, and chance of promotion will depends on your location, as well as personal relationship within the company, if you are out of Detroit, basically very hard to get any real promotion. Compensation is on average side.

Advice to Senior ManagementReally think about how to retain good people.

CPWR was very good to me, until the last few years

    Developer (Former Employee) Detroit, MI

ProsThey take care of their employees. Very good salary, second-to-none benefits. The building downtown is a great place to work (although the commute is awful).

ConsIt was a great place until the company started coming unglued. Venture capitalists have been pounding the board to "unlock value", which now means sell divisions and dump people, left and right.

"Employee development" is laughable. There are no opportunities for serious training.

Advice to Senior ManagementI don't see any future at CPWR. Even if I could have my old job back, I don't think I'd take it. The company is just circling the drain.

The times recently when mgmt has "communicated" to employees, it hasn't said anything useful...check that...hasn't said anything at all.

Could be a great company, but.there seems to be a lack of forward thinking.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat products and fantastic people (non-management).

ConsPolitics, old outdated thinking, significant unequal pay. Lots of tenured employees that have clout, but are not hard working or pleasant to work with. Annual trips to Detroit are a complete drag.

    OK

Marketing Manager (Current Employee) Waltham, MA

    Pros-flexible work hours
    -interesting products
    -fun co-workers

    Cons-politics is a nightmare
    -no upper management organization
-culture flawed- always rumors around what is going to happen next
    -hard to get a raise
-it feels like upper management doesn't appreciate its employees
-So many processes- hard to get things done

Advice to Senior ManagementSpin of the APM BU, become less 'Detroit focused," make a decision and stick with it

    Professional Staff

Professional Staff (Former Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsGood Work Life Balance. Keep interviewing you with the multiple client they have. Pay when you are off from assignment.

ConsBad with the Economy. Less clients at bad times, so less people on project and you are fired.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink before hiring. If you are not able to sustain at bad times, better not to hire many people just for building pipeline.

    Customer Technical Support Analyst

Customer Technical Support Analyst (Current Employee) Detroit, MI

ProsI work closely with a team of people where I have been able to enhance my knowledge of Compuware mainframe products

ConsPersonal growth is not at an advantage. There are no classes offered online or offsite. Chances of promotion from within are very slim

Advice to Senior ManagementEven thought the company has been wonderful in offering me flexible time, a gym and a cafe, there should still be an opportunity for growth

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
