I have been working at Con Edison of New York full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay, steady work. 401k, corporate discount card. Paid training. If you don't steal, you will not get fired. lol

    Cons

Abusive management, zero experience supervision. Invasive and distrustful company. Feels like they hate their union employees. You feel more like an inmate than an employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote workers who know the job to supervisory roles, instead of hiring 22 year old drones to supervise guys who have 15-40 years experience. stop spying.

I have been working at Con Edison of New York full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Job stability is number one here. Benefits are decent but have become very expensive over time (for both management and union). Career growth is possible with some motivation, some luck and a LOT of connections.

    Cons

Very very old fashioned, feels like a time warp to the 1960s. Culture and values completely out of touch with reality and their employees needs. Very inflexible should personal issues come up.Technologically behind on the times, making day to day work frustrating.Depending on the department, staff can be very unmotivated, making for a very unproductive work force.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Encourage and respect your peers.

    Pros

Hours are flexible. Great location but shouldnt' be a reason to stay.

    Cons

If you're a contractor or consultant, leave within a year. Dont think twice of staying longer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat contractors like employees. Everyone is a person. Deserves the same respect.

I have been working at Con Edison of New York full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Laid back culture... You will enjoy working here if you don't want to take challenge and love sleeping at job

    Cons

In the long run, you will lose value and won't be able to compete in outside world

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hey management, you should try to develop people within the company and promote them instead of bringing someone from outside to fill a senior level position

I have been working at Con Edison of New York full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Stability, Government sponsored monopoly, and good for lazy people

    Cons

No proper guidance, many unqualified people holding positions and getting position due to favoritism. Makes people lazy. Erodes intelligence out of smart peoples. The culture is very bad. Employees who has been here before 2005 have way more benefit than people started after 2005.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look outside.. This management just think about fattening its wallet. Politics wont save on doomsday
