    Pros

in the beginning great people, most of them were lost when a new service center manager was brought in, loved the company and wanted to advance and stay that happened but didn't last

    Cons

people in office are very inconsiderate of other people, they want to push their duties off on other people and get away with it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you can advance if you work for it but then you are not trained like you should be and held accountable for more than what you were trained in

    Pros

I liked what I did just most people were backstabbers and lairs! Pay okay... But they can not keep drivers so they up the pay quickly and forget about the rest!

    Cons

Too much to list! No support at terminals even HR was harassed!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Departments need to play nice! I would never tell anyone to work there!!!! They don't encourage friendships among co-workers... go figure keep to your self and you will have a job yes job that is all group of good ole boys!!

I have been working at Con-way Freight full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Many Locations compared to some other transportation companies which gives you more options on where to live other than typical urban centers, though most smaller locations are treated poorly.

    Cons

Most of management talks to drivers like they are 2 inches tall and made of dog feces, they seem to think that federal hours of service laws aren't applicable if drivers need to make up for short comings of incompetent supervisors. In 2012 they decided to hack away A majority of the dedicated start times for the 2013 year leaving a majority of drivers as "flex" in which they expect you to start calling in at 6 or 7 am for a time they want you to come to work and that does not mean they won't decide to put you on a night shift completely out of the blue. What they claim to be core values like "Safety" and "Integrity" are only slogans, you have to fight with supervisors all the time to be legal and safe and "Integrity" is a joke, they will intentionally miss appointments because it doesn't fit with what they want to do that day and you're left holding the bag trying to politely make up some story to A residential delivery or warehouse as to why you've COMPLETELY missed your appointment. They require us to wear uniforms which they used to launder and mend for us, that's gone. Now you're stuck with low quality uniforms that wear out faster than they replace them and are VERY over-priced if you're to spend your own money on extras and it's up to you to find someone to mend them. As if all that wasn't enough they recently decided to introduce multiple pay scales in which certain service centers get paid more than others based on criteria that was completely pulled out of thin air. If you're looking for a driving job I do not recommend Con-Way Freight, they used to be great but they are in bad times now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop acting like nobody is ever going to leave and that experienced vs inexperienced employees can't make or break a company. Hot Market Pay scales? What a joke!!! Dumbest move in the history of management

I worked at Con-way Freight full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is VERY good, benefits were continuously reduced but better than most, company core values were solid...

    Cons

You soon realize that regardless how much they pay you, it isn't enough! Company doesn't value the hard workers so the mediocre ones prevail, poor morale, high-stress job (company induced), underpaid management created disdain and disrespect with the core employees (the drivers)...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to the principles the company was founded upon. Treat the drivers with respect and you'll receive it in return.

    Pros

Where to begin? Well, you get 5 free uniforms. If you need/want more you have to pay for them. 6 paid holidays. Most of the drivers are pretty good people. You get a paycheck. Yep,thats about it

    Cons

Micromanagement to the inth degree, crap for handheld computers, computers always crashing. When the weather goes cold fork lifts wont start. Benefits suck for first year employees. Pay is ok but if you think your going to get ahead you are mistaken. You wear many hats here.City driver, dock worker, yard jockey, linehaul driver. Hell if you have mechanical experience they would have you working on trucks too.IF you can get overtime it will only be by minutes. Start times are non existant until you have been there at least 5 yrs. They call you approxamately 2 hrs before you are required to startand by god don't be late. Never know when your getting off. Get a raise then cut your hours. When i started driving a truck 20 yrs. ago Conway was the place to work. Great pay, plenty of O.T great benefits, pd vacations, personal time off. To get on with Conway people had to die before a position opened. I will say their is at least one person in management that is really trying to figure out the problem at our terminal and trying to amend the problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wanna keep employees, quit worrying about your bonuses. Hand out O.T (at least down here in the south). That is one reason there is a high turn over. A person works 40 to 49 hrs a week and only brings home between $600 and $700. If a driver is used to making more and now you don't make enough to cover your bills and buy food drivers wont stay.

    Pros

Meeting new people and learning a few things here and there.

    Cons

Management, hours, the amount of unprofessionalism is mind blowing. No room for growth, and a lot of false promises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch your supervisors more often, shadow them often. Pay attention to each and every employee. Some may be great employees and you're just looking over them and paying more attention to someone who has been there a year longer. Seniority is great in small doses. Some of the people have been there for years but have no idea how to do their job. Pay attention to those who have been there less, you'd be surprised with their skills.
