    Pros

    * Teamwork between drivers and dock employees * Benefits *

    Cons

    * Inexperienced Supervisors * Good old politics make the higher ups turn a blind eye to when their buddies miss a delivery/pick-up,or even damage freight: even if it comes out of the company pocket. * Rules are enforced only when it is not someone's friend * Lower pay compared to other national carriers

    Advice to Management

Trust the ones who know how to do their jobs, not your buddies who are learning on the fly. Favoritism and Who knows Who are great when the person can actually do the task at hand.

    Pros

if your an owner or leasing its ok.

    Cons

if your a company driver they dont run you enough to make much over 40k a year

    Advice to Management

40k a year isn't much when you have to eat out all the time, a 35k a year being at home you make more more savings just in food, not to mention have a life. 40k is not worth otr driveing

    Pros

It was a very laid back environment and there wasn't any mirco managing. They did keep in touch with what the employees needed as far as personally.

    Cons

The pay was not competitive at all. and benefits in comparison to other major companies I've worked for was the worst I have ever seen. There wasn't a training class to new employees. We did side by sides for 2 days and then were on our own. Even with experience you need to know more about what your expected to do as an employee.

    Advice to Management

Get a competitive pay rate and it shouldn't take a year for you to get dental and vision benefits. That's ridiculous. Have a training class for new employees.

    Pros

Pay is good Job security is pretty good Military friendly Great benefits including health, dental, vision, and a 401k. Focus on safety in the work place.

    Cons

Long hours Poor shifts This company has little to no reward for the hard work you put in. And by reward, I mean the attitude towards employees. Management is not encouraging…they do not provide a team atmosphere like they make you think. Instead they create a consequence environment where it's about how bad you did, not how good you did some things and could improve on others. Ability to advance is limited for drivers and management. If you're management, you must be willing to relocate. I was also lied to when I was hired about the shifts I'd work and the pay raises I'd receive

    Advice to Management

Do a thorough review of your regional management. See if they're actually putting in their part….and producing this "change" in culture that Con-Way preaches. Provide encouragement to employees, not consequence.

    Pros

The company finely got management right at the Reno service center. After going through 13 service center managers the present one is really good to work for and with. If you have to drive a truck for a living Con-way ain't too bad. I had to L.O.L. when I heard a few of their service centers voted for the union. Now everyone gets a big raise and they turned the trucks back up to 65.

    Cons

After 31 years I have seen the company go from a great 'family type of operation' and we will always take care of you, to lets see how much less we can pay you. In 2006 they froze the defined retirement plan at the then levels. That cost me about $231,000 over 20 years of retirement or $963 per month. Years ago to save fuel they slowed the trucks down to 62 M.P.H. that cost me 1 hour more a day, every day, no extra pay just more of my time. I was a line driver and paid by the mile so speed was a big factor Medical went from Cadillac to something like Obama care and that's what they blamed it all on. No one in management has the power to change anything. They have to ask the main office for permission to use the restroom. Over the years I have talked to every one in upper management that I came into contact with to no avail. Not that I am a complainer, I just saw things that were really dumb. When you have worked at a company longer then some of the management has been alive you would think they would at least listen. For the last ten years I would have been first in line to vote for the union!!! I just missed it by a few months. I should have stayed to see what would happen next. Don't miss it but still upset. This is just a short list of complaints. I know I am just wasting my time here but I feel better for it.

    Advice to Management

WAKE UP!!! Start taking care of the people that do the "work" for you and pay them a living wage. Upper management gets more in expenses than I made in a year.. Time to share the wealth. Things have improved a lot over the years with culture and values and the trucks to drive but not in pay or benefits at the time I retired. Sorry you had to get slapped in the face by the union to wake up.

    Pros

    Pay. Other drivers. Decent benfits

    Cons

Terrible leadership. No excuses driver is always at fault.

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees. I understand ridding those that need it but do not treat all the same. This the management is horrible and unions WILL move in easily.
