I have been working at Con-way Freight

    Pros

Great location, strong team, young blood striving to succeed

    Cons

Moved across the country for this contract without a stipend, and on my third day on the job my boss held a meeting detailing how the project I was brought on for didn't really serve a purpose for the UX team. Constantly shifting responsibilities and unclear goals.

I worked at Con-way Freight full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Most of the techniques I use today I learned at Con-Way. Some of the best professional drivers I've ever worked with were there. When I get in a difficult dock, day etc, I fall back on my conway experience.

    Cons

Sometimes feeling what we did was never enough. Too concerned about the union. Rather than just focusing on the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let your guys know when they did a good job. A pat on the back really does matter. If guys are paid fair, treated as the professionals they are, and made to feel that the company is their home, then they could care less about any union or going anywhere else.

    Great people, old technology

    I worked at Con-way Freight

    Pros

Had the opportunity to work with some really great people. Interesting problems to solve. The freight business was totally new to me and I now really appreciate its complexities.

    Cons

The only major con I can think of about this company is that they use really old technology. If you are looking to work with bleeding edge technologies then this is not the company for you (at least while I was there, this may have changed).

    Pros

Decent pay for driving a fork lift. They work with hours and let you take off if need be.

    Cons

There is no set in stone schedule for dock workers at my terminal. We either call in to find out our hours or they tell us the day before.

I have been working at Con-way Freight full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You can make money. Good Benefits' ok retirement. Plenty of advancement potential with college degree. Co workers for the most part are exellent guys to work with.

    Cons

Company has an idea of where it wants to go but because it is so completely different from what they have been doing they're not sure on how to get there; or at least there's no evidence of it. To many college minded people running company without real pratical experience in moving freight. Lousy hours, to much about #s little to do with the reality of the situation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Integrate more senior drivers into management.
